The minimum grade necessary to remain in this class and on this team is a C+

 Academic Dishonesty
o Academic dishonesty includes behaviors such as cheating, inventing false
information or citations, plagiarism, and helping someone else commit an act of
academic dishonesty. It usually involves an attempt by a student to show a
possession of a level of knowledge or skill which he/she in fact does not possess.
Cheating is defined as the act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for
work by the use of any dishonest, deceptive, fraudulent, or unauthorized means.
Plagiarism is defined as the act of taking the work of another and offering it as
one’s own without giving credit to that source. If teacher finds any form of
dishonesty will with first strike lower the assignment by one letter grade second
time student will receive an F for that assignment.

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

 Expectations
o Students will have resiliency when defeated by after an assignment or
expectation and the teacher will help student to understand what they did not
understand.
o Students and Teacher will take ownership over all work done in and outside of
the class.
o Students will take pride in all their achievements big or small and teacher will
also not judge against their achievements.
o Students and Teacher will have respect to each other inside and outside of the
classroom and also to other students.
o Students will be honest with the teacher and classmates on all work and
assessments done for this class.
 Consequences
o Students with unexcused absences will not receive credit on any missed work
o Students with excused absence will have 1 week from absent day to make up
any missing work
o Students will receive one respect warning within the class and then will be asked
to leave if the student cannot be respectful to the teacher or his/her classmates
 Rewards
o Students will receive 5 points extra credit a month if they have no absences or
late days
o Students will be given 1 extra credit opportunity per grading period with varying
amounts and types of assignments
 Conferences
o Students will have to have a one-on-one conference with the teacher in two
circumstances:
 Grade falls below a C+ and needs additional help/tutoring to be able to
pass the class
 Respect level able to continue to be in the class is not acceptable
o If student does not attend the meeting they will be removed from the class
 Social Expectations
o All students and teacher within the class will have respect one another’s beliefs,
thoughts, and personal space.

ACADEMIC & CLASSROOM ROUTINES & PROCEDURES

 Absences & Tardies


o Students with unexcused absences will not receive credit on any missed work
o Students with excused absence will have 1 week from absent day to make up
any missing work
 Collecting & Returning Work
o All homework will be turned into the basket labeled with the student’s period at
the start of the class
o All work will be returned graded within two weeks of the time the students have
turned in the assignment
 Missing or Late work
o Missing or late work will only be expected within 1 week of an excused absence
o No missing or late work will be accepted if absence or tardy is not excused
 Daily Routine
o Students will start by turning in work in the basket and then go to seat to
complete either a journal entry or vocabulary words for the day
o Students at the end of every class will take part in a class discussion or debate on
topic that was discussed in class
 Procedures
o Students will not get out of their seats while teacher is speaking
o Students are able to get supplies and use the restroom doing group work
assignments and while teacher is not speaking
o Students will return all supplies given to them by the teacher to their rightful
spots by the end of period
 Requesting Help
o Students are able to ask for help from other students, teacher, and the resources
center at any time before school or during class
 Academic Routines
o Journal entries and Vocabulary will be turned in at the end of every unit on the
day of the test
o All in class work and projects will be turned in at the end of every unit on the day
of the test

PARENT/GUARDIAN LETTER

 Hello, I am Ms. Chilton and will be your student’s teacher for this year. I have obtained
my B.A., Teaching Credential, and master’s from California University, Fullerton. I have
been working and teaching students for over 15 years and enjoy every minute of it.
 I believe that every student deserves respect and to be heard in the classroom. Having
a safe and positive environment inside the classroom I believe will create a confident
educational experience for every child.

 In this year’s course you can expect your student to have limited number of test and
quizzes, because I am a strong supporter of discussions and project-based learning.
Students will not just be learning the facts of history but will also be learning how use
and apply these facts in their own future historical lives.

 I cannot wait to meet you at Back to School Night on September 24 th, 2019.

COMMUNICATION PLAN
 Students will receive the above information on the first day of school along with a
syllabus. It will also require a parent/guardian and student signature acknowledging
that both parties have read and understand the classroom management policies.
