CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

1.This section presents the research design used in the study, the population and sample,
the data gathering instrument, data gathering procedure and statistical treatment.
2.This chapter gives an outline of research methods that was followed in the study.
Research Design
1.This study will use the ____________________ method of research. Describe the
research method and relate it to your Research title. Example, Descriptive research is a study
designed to describe the participants in an accurate way. More simply, descriptive research is all
about describing people who take part in the study. It determined the profile of the owners, street
food business profile, customer’s profile and operation of the street food business in terms of
managemnent and marketing.
2. A descriptive and correlational reseach design will be used in this study. The descriptive
research design will be applied to describe the senior citizen’s socio demographic profile, their
level of knowledge of lifestyle practices and their extent of observance of lifestyle practices. The
correlational research design will be applied to determine the relationship of the senior citizen’s
socio demographic profile to their level of knowledge and extent of observance of lifestyle
practices.
Sources of Data
1.The source of data of this study will be the ___________ students from the Senior High
School Department both Academic (STEM, ABM,GAS and HUMSS) and Tech-Voc (ICT and
HE) tracks.
2.The data will be gatheres with the use of a questionnaire that will be distributed to the
owners and customers of the different Street Food Businesses in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
3.The sources of data used in this study will be the 23 souvenir and atique entreprenerus of
Calle Crisologo, Vigan City.
Duration and Locale
1.This study will take place in different barangays of Vigan City namely, Tamag, Pantay
Daya and barangay IX for thr year 2018-2019.
2.The researchers will conduct the study streed food businesses in Nueva Segovia St.
Alacantara St, . Zamora St., Plaa Maestro Comm’L Complex Florantino, Burgost St., Jose Singson
St., Gomez St., Salcedo St., V Delos reyes St., Rizal St., and Quezon Avenue, Vigan City Ilocos
Sur.
3.This study will be conducted for school year 2018-2019 in Divine Word Colllege of
Vigan, Barangay III Burgos Street, Vigan City.
Population of the Study
1.Twenty five (25) street food owners and seventy five (75) customers served as the
respondents of the study.
2.The respondents of this study were the 23 entrepreneurs of Calle Crisologo.
3.The population selected for this study will be the Senior High School Students of Divine
Word College of Vigan. A list of 495 students will be obtained from the registrar’s office. There
are forty-four students from STEM, 27students from ABM, 48 students from GAS, 41 students
from HUMSS, 37 students from HE and 24 students from ICT from the list to answer the
questionnaire. The list will be used to select 222 students to participate in this study. This assures
that gender representation was similar to that of the strand at large. A total of 221 students were
selected for this study.
Data Gathering Instrument
1.Questionnaires will be used in the collection of data. The questionnaire is adopted from
the study of Jainar M (2012) entitled “Lifestyle Practices Among High School Students in Candon
City, Ilocos Sur” but were modified and validated by experts.
The questionnaire is divided into three parts:
Part I is designed to gather information regarding the socio demographic profile of the
respondents pertainin to their age, sex, educational attainment and living condition.
Part II deals with the level of knowledge of lifestyle practices among respondents.
Part III deals with the extent of observance of lifestyle practices among respondents.
The following norms of interpretation for the Level of Knowledge on Lifestyle Practices
will be applied

Data Gathering Procedure


1.The researcher will go to Tamag, pantay Daya and Barangay IX to gather data with the
use of the questionnaire. The information that will be gathered from the participants will be used
in analyzing, interpreting and drawing the conclusion of this study.

2.The researchers will request a list of registered street food businesses to the office of
Vigan City Mayor. The researchers will ask permission from the owners and customers. Then the
researchers will humbly and patiently asked the owners and customers to answer the questionnaires
for the data needed in the study. To ensure the retrieval of questionnaires, the researchers will
personally administer, float and retrieve the questionnaires from the respondents.

3.The study will involve the gathering of data using cheklict questionnaire. The researchers
will ask permission through a letter to the principal and faculty members of Senior High School
Department to allow the researchers to float their questionnaires to the Senior High School
students.

 Frequency count and percentage will be used to describe the respondents’ profile.
 Mean was used to describe the academic performance of SHS in DWCV.
