Re: New grease types for general purposes and for boom sliding pads
Date of issue: 11/03/08
Machine type: all MERLO telescopic handlers
Modification validity: only as specified by MERLO S.p.A./SAV

SAFETY AND GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Before carrying out maintenance work, position the machine on flat level ground and carry out the following
operations in this order:
- Disconnect loads or attachments from the machine.
- Place chock blocks in front of and behind wheels in order to avoid accidental movements.
- Engage the hand brake, place the transmission lever in the neutral position and stop the engine.
- During operations that do not require the engine running remove the key from the dashboard and keep it
in a safe place.

WARNING !!! The procedure must be carried out by skilled and qualified fitters, with good
knowledge of the mechanical components and the functioning of hydraulic and electrical
systems of the machine on which they are operating.

NECESSARY MATERIAL

Two new types of grease to be used on MERLO telescopic handlers have been recently standardized.
The table below shows the new type of grease to be used and the purposes for which it is intended.

Product Applications Part No.

GRASSO ROLOIL TIV VERDE RAL6002 Pivot pins, Greased joints,
065865
SPECIAL-MERLO Boom sliding pads (Internal)
GRASSO ROLOIL ULTRAGREASE
Boom sliding pads (external) 064113
SPECIAL-MERLO

IMPORTANT! "ROLOIL SPECIAL-MERLO" greases have been designed and manufactured

especially for Merlo machines. Therefore, to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency of your
machine, always use these products only, which shall be ordered from Merlo Technical Support
Service.

The grease that is currently used (PBR Rubber grease) can still be applied to the gaskets and the piston of the
service brake caliper.

GREASING PROCEDURE

Before applying grease, clean the parts carefully and remove any remaining grease.
Degrease.
Use a brush to apply a thin but compact grease layer on the surfaces of the 4 pads; the correct quantity of
grease has been set to 25 g/m, i.e. 25 g. of grease per meter by which the boom is extended.
The grease to be used is wash-resistant. However, it is recommended to grease parts at least every 1,000
hours, or at least once a year.
