Meet your 5th Grade Teachers!
Hello! My name is Samantha Hemphill and I am your scholar’s 5th grade social studies
teacher and 5th grade team lead this year. This will be my 8th year working with
children and my 4rd year at E-Prep. I have taught 5th grade math, ELA, and for the past
three years social studies. I love 5th grade social studies and am so excited to explore
different cultures with your scholar. We begin the year working with maps and then
dive into ancient civilizations, Native Americans and European exploration. Scholars
will engage in many projects and research opportunities in social studies this year. I
am your partner in your child’s education and am so excited to work with you and your
scholars this year.

My name is Ms. Whitfield, and I am very excited to welcome you to fifth grade
science! I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of
Michigan before moving to Cleveland. I am now beginning my forth year teaching
science at E Prep. This year, your scholar will spend most of the first trimester
studying different components of ecosystems and life science in general. Later in
the year we will explore the solar system, and even the beginnings of
physics! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me by phone or email with any
questions or concerns that you may have, and I look forward to getting to know
both you and your scholar throughout the year!

Hello, I am Ms. Watkin! I will be teaching 5th grade Math for the second year at E
Prep. I graduated from Cornell University where I studied Nutritional Sciences
and Education. I am so excited for my students to learn new math skills they can
use inside and outside of the classroom, and to have an awesome first year at E
Prep. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

My name is Aric Skalican, and I’m teaching 5th grade English language arts. In class,
we will work to become closer readers and more skilled writers. I have taught ELA
the past three years and this will be my second year at E Prep Cliffs. I will also be
coaching boys basketball in the winter for E preps. I am very excited to get to know
you and your student!
