Discrimination Essay

Some people believe that racism and discrimination disappeared with the right to own

slaves, but they are wrong. In fact, the last segregated school was just changed to unsegregated

last year. Also, many white Americans remain racist against other races. Some whites still

believe they’re superior. However, these beliefs need to be changed. America is the country of

immigrants, and the white descendants of the pioneers who stole this land should not feel like the

land is theirs. This country is founded on immigration and should accept diversity.

Discrimination began during slavery but stayed long after. At first, people wanted their

lives to be “separate but equal” but they soon realized that it wasn’t fair or equal. Nowadays we

don’t have “black/white” buildings, but discrimination is still a problem. Especially in the south,

where many descendants still believe the ways of their ancestors were right. However, now the

discrimination is happening to more than the African Americans, but with any immigrants.

Trump has been a large cause of the increase of discrimination recently. Not only does he

discriminate against other races, but he also is not found of females. He has mostly been

recognized for his racist thoughts towards Mexicans -- even some who are citizens. Also, he

feels as though white males are being threatened because of women and immigrants wanting

more rights. In the article I read, the author describes Trump’s campaign as an attempt “to Make

America’s ​white men feel ​Great Again.” I strongly agree with his claims.
 Almost 50% of whites citizens believe that increasing diversity will “harm” or threaten

their race. So now the problem is about way more races than the African Americans. Americans

are discriminating against all potential immigrants and several immigrated citizens. The racism

in America is spawned by their stereotypical fears. However, citizens need to realize people are

people and where they come from should not matter.

It is ridiculous that the descendants of the whites who immigrated here feel like they are

the “normal” citizens. However, every person who is not a descendant of a Native should be

considered and “intruder”. Considering America’s history I feel that we should accept

immigrants and make it a little easier to become a citizen. As a country the spawned from

immigrants, Americans should accept others that want to become a part of it. America should be

the land of the free, but also the land of diversity.
