The Montana Catfish
Association’s 20th Annual Milk
River Catfish Classic will headline
this year’s Inaugural Milk River
Catfish Days hosted by the Glasgow
Area Chamber of Commerce &
Agriculture.
The Montana Catfish
Association and Cat Classic Crew,
in conjunction with the Glasgow
Chamber, announce an agreement
with the Plowed Under Band to
perform at this year’s Milk River
Catfish Classic Calcutta and Street
Dance in front of the Montana Bar
on Glasgow’s Famous Front Street
on Friday, May 31st. Festivities will
get underway at 5:00 PM.
The Band will also play on the
weigh-in stage on Saturday during
the fishing tourney, as part of the
Brand NEW Milk River Catfish
Days event. A whole weekend
of adult and kid friendly events
planned for downtown Glasgow. Challenge is coming in HOT!
Saturday will be jam packed
with new events including: Pancake
Breakfast, Corn Hole Tournament,
Merchant “Catfish Crazy Days”,
Catfish Crawl Run/Walk, Kids
Fishing Tournament at Home Run
Pond, Bloody Mary’s and Breakfast

Steve Daines, and Congressman
Greg Gianforte have introduced
legislation to increase critical
investments in the Milk River
Infrastructure Project that
thousands of Montana farmers rely
on for access to reliable irrigation
water in northcentral Montana.
The St. Mary’s Reinvestment
Act will ensure that the federal
government picks up 75 percent
of the costs for upgrades to
the century-old water project.
Currently, the federal government
only funds 26 percent of the
project, leaving local users with
the responsibility to pay the rest of
the tab.
“Water is life, and folks
across the Hi-Line understand
how critical this investment is for
our state’s number one industry,”
Tester said. “This bill will ensure
that local taxpayers, farmers, and
ranchers aren’t stuck with a big
bill while important upgrades are
made to one of the nation’s first

Dilemma
I don’t know about you, but when
I buy something I want it to work. Not
so with a recent purchase I made at
my local seed provider.
I’ve had gardens in past years and
I know that when you put a seed in the ground and are
blessed with plenty of water and sunshine something
should grow from that seed.
In my yootful days back in the late forties, early
fifties in the summertime I lived with Henry and
Frances Barton up on the Frenchman. I spent several or
more hot-ish summers and one very cold winter in the
cozy confines of the Barton home.
Promise....this will lead into the garden story. Be
patient.
Back in the day women worked at home. Frances
was no exception. Breakfast was a hearty meal. Nothing
popped out of the toaster, nor was anything found in the
toaster oven. Her men worked very hard and needed
nourishment. More on Frances at a later day.
Their one son Roger had gone off to San Francisco,
became a letter carrier up and down those hills and
also became a noted artist carving ducks. Some sold for
as much as $2,500! He was a talented man indeed. He
raised his family in a home on one of those hills and
lived there for over 60 years!
Other son John came home from WWII with a
Purple Heart from a wound that bothered him some
until the day he died. He was a prolific writer of Letters
to the Editor as many of you readers of Thanks for
Listening can attest.

OK, here’s the garden part.
I bought a sack of seeds at an outrageous price and
was told it was good for most wild birds.
I have a lot of those little yellow birds I call little
yellow birds hanging out at my place. I like to watch
them.
Any way....I dug up a small garden patch in my
yard, tilled it up, fertilized it, killed all the weeds and
generally got it ready for the seeds.
I trenched three furrows, inserted some of the
seed, covered up the furrows and watered the whole
she-bang.
Then I waited.....and waited... two days passed...
nothing. Then a whole week passed without even a peep.
After three weeks I took the seed back to the Dehy
and demanded Roberta replace it with some that would
grow or refund my money.
She asked what happened and I told her “Nothing
Happened!” Nothing grew. No little yellow birds, no
wrens not even a sparrow!
I told her how I had planted the bird seed, that the
seed had plenty of water and good soil and yet not a
nary bird came of it all!
She got that old possum in the headlight look and
asked “you are kidding....aren’t you?”
I said “ kidding about what? The seed didn’t work.”
It looked like she would like to throw something at
me and the rest of the folks were having a good laugh
at my expense so seeing as how I wasn’t going to get
a refund I turned and strode out the door, head held
