A Look Throughout the Semester

English was never a subject I looked forward to in school, not because it was boring, but

because I did not think I was good at it. Though, going into Composition 2, it helped me

strengthen my writing. In the class, we had a total of three short academic responses and three

major essays. Although the major essays were worth more than the short academic responses, it

did not diminish the importance of them. The major essays taught me how to incorporate my

thoughts and ideas into an academic paper and power point. Even though I am not the best

writer, I believe my skills have improved by the end of the course. The short academic responses

were much easier to me and that is because it was helped me in the end with the major essays. It

acted as a way of getting me ready to write the essays.

Skills that I learned were researching information and combining it into an essay. I also

learned different techniques to writing papers and which one works best for me. The skills that I

find that I have strengthened is sentence structure, learning how to not over elaborate, and my

grammar. Still, they are perfect, but I have improved through the semester. To help me enhance

my writing skills even more, I want to read more and see how different authors are writing and I

plan to expand my vocabulary by learning new words regularly.

From the essays that were written in Composition 2, the analysis essay was the easiest for

me. This is because I have done this type of essay in the past and I already knew the concept and

how to write the paper. On the other hand, the causal argument essay was the hardest for me

because I did not know how to write this type of essay and at the beginning I was confused and

lost. Eventually, when I started research and write more of the causal argument, I got what the

overall goal was and it started to make more sense. This essay also taught me the most since it

required me to come up with solutions to real life issues. After this class is over, it will help me

in the future especially in the workforce. Our last major assignment was the redux, which was a

power point from the causal argument. It helped me reduce my ideas into slides, so that it can

concise and straight to the point. It will help me a lot when I have presentations because I will

already know what to say. The skills I learned will also help me with critical thinking skills and

how I will articulate my words when talking to people.

Overall, Composition 2 taught me many skills. The major essays were a challenge that

helped me expand my knowledge including the short academic responses. There are still skills

that I need to improve and work on though. Each assignment that was given had its purpose and I

gained valuable information from them. This class will help me now and in the future with my

academics and in the workforce.
