this story take part at a a dinner party at the home of Mike Schofield.

The guests include

Schofield and his wife and daughter, Mike and his wife, and a man called Richard
Pratt. Pratt is a famous gourmet and enjoys showing off his knowledge of fine wine and
food. Every time prior that Pratt eaten with Schofield, the two men made a curious bet
Schofield bet that Pratt couldn´t identify the wine that he had arranged for that night. .
Pratt had never loose.. Mike thinks we is gone finally win because he has a very rare bottle
of claret from a tiny chateau in France, and he boasts that Pratt will never be able to guess
it. Pratt, who had been spending the night talking with Schofield’s daughter Louise, takes
the bet and asks to up the stakes. He offers to bet two of his houses against the hand of
Louise in marriage. Both Louise and her mother are against it, but Schofield manages to
convince them to accept. He believes that Pratt has no chance of winning. Pratt then
proceeds to smell and taste the wine, and he slowly begins to narrow down its possible
origin. Eventually he gets the correct answer and Schofield sits there horrified. Just as
Pratt is starting to get nasty about the bet, the house maid appears at his arm and offers
him his spectacles, which he had misplaced earlier. He takes no notice of her, but she
stands her ground and reminds him (rather loudly) that he left them in Mr. Schofield’s
study on top of the filing cabinet when he went in there that evening… which is just where
Pratt, on a previous visit, had advised Schofield to leave his wines to “breathe”. In other
words, he cheated!

About the betting I think that are people with some real issues with betting. For an
instance people that bet usually have a condition named gambling disorder because they
are compulsive gambling. People like that can lose one house, one car and other
expensive thing in just one night. Usually they own money to everyone because the cant
stop betting and playing. IS just a disease for my a thinks that are something that we can’t
bet whatever how good is the odds because if we lose we lose are things that are
irreplaceable.

Hi Julia. You will never believe what happen to me at my last dinner at my house. We were
six people attending to that dinner my father, mother and I and another couple and for last
a old guy very ugly named Pratt but he is a famous gourmet and a specialist in wines. My
father and him always bet about the wine but this time my father brought a wine that he
thought that was impossible to know the name and the label of that wine so they bet like
they always do. This time that they surpass their limits, my father convinced that was
impossible to guess the name of the wine agreed to increase the bet so Pratt offered two
very expensive houses and he want in return me imagine that he wants to marriage me.
My father agree with that I start to imagine me married with that ugly and old guy, it was a
disgusting just to imagine and I was very afraid. So you can imagine when Pratt said the
correct answer I was very afraid but in the end one the maid of our house came into the
table and she given the glasses that belongs to Pratt that he forget near the wine si he
cheated he always knew the named os the wine. I was very relief in the end.
