1. What does it mean to be a reflective practitioner (cite your source)? Why is this
important?
2. Describe at least one teacher who had a profound influence on you. Construct a
list of attributes (at least 3) the teacher had. What particular qualities made him/her
your favorite? Why?
I had a science teacher that had a significant impact on the value of my time spent
at school. His attributes are as follows:
- Enthusiastic
- Engaging
- Passionate about the subject he taught
- Extremely knowledgeable
- Always willing to go the extra mile to help us understand the material
I think the qualities that made him my favorite was how enthusiastic and engaging
he was. He always made the classroom a very fun, yet productive environment and
he also engaged all the students and cared about each one of us.
It is important for a teacher to follow the code of ethics because it covers very
important issues in the manner of a teacher’s conduct. By not following the code of
ethics, a teacher could significantly, negatively effect a student’s education and/or
life.
There was an instance where I saw section 3 of Principle I play out. The class I was
in was a certain math and instead of teaching that material, the teacher put it to the
side for a couple of days and instead taught us more relevant matters such as doing
taxes and investing and such. Although it was mostly unrelated to the course
material, myself and the other students greatly appreciated it because we had much
more use for that information than the standardized material in that particular math
class.
