(b) The manufacturer of a soft drink claims that the mean volume of the soft drink bottles is
at least 503 ml. The volume of ten randomly selected bottles, recorded to the nearest 0.1
ml are:

502.5, 501.0, 501.5, 503.9, 498.7, 505.7, 504.6, 499.4, 501.8, 501.1

(i) Conduct a hypothesis test at a 5% significance level, to test the claim made by the
manufacturer, given that the population standard deviation for the volume of the
bottles is 1.8 ml.

defective. What is the probability that the same batch of sixty bearings will be
rejected?
