Instructions: This paper consists of FIVE (5) questions. Answer any FOUR (4) questions in the
answer booklet provided. All questions carry equal marks.
Question 1
(a) A new production line is designed to dispense 12-ounce(oz) of a drink into each can as it
passes along the line. After calibration and training of the assembly personnel, five
observations on , the amount of drink dispensed per can, are taken each hour for a 6-
hour period. The following Table 1 summarizes the readings on , collected during this
6-hour period.

Question 5
(a) An experimenter randomly selects = 36 batteries from a production line and measures
their voltages. An average of ̅ = 242.2 is obtained, with a sample standard deviation of
= 2.80. Decide whether the average voltage of the batteries from the production line is
different from 240 by carrying out a hypothesis testing at = 0.05 level of significance
as suggested by the procedure below.
(i) Set up the null and the alternative hypotheses for the test.

(ii) Suggest a test statistic, and indicate its distribution clearly.
