The router is designed for direct terminal or PC access via a console port. The console port can be used to connect a computer to the router for
direct access to the CLI.
Connect a terminal or PC to the RJ-45 console port on the front of the router with the console cable. Using a PC, you must run a terminal
emulation program such as HyperTerminal or Reflection. Set your terminal emulation program to:
9600 baud (or bps)
8 data bits
No parity
1 stop bit
Hardware flow control
COM Port 1 (assuming the console cable is connected to the COM1 port of your PC)

The console port is an RS-232 serial interface that uses an RJ-45 connector to connect to a management device such as a PC or a laptop. If your
laptop or PC does not have a DB-9 male connector pin and you want to connect your laptop or PC to the switch, use a combination of the RJ-45 to
DB-9 female adapter supplied with the switch along with a USB to DB-9 male adapter.
Connects the Routing Engine through an Ethernet connection to a management LAN (or any other device that plugs into an Ethernet connection)
for out-of-band management. The port uses an autosensing RJ-45 connector to support both 10- and 100-Mbps connections.
To connect the Routing Engine to a network for out-of-band management, connect an Ethernet cable with RJ-45/RJ-45 connectors to the
ETHERNET port on the CIP. Setup some basic configuration.
