0 INTRODUCTION
TV show has become synonym among people nowadays. TV show has become part
of our life. TV Show is where we can laugh with family and friends. All of this are come from
television. Television is one of our world most important asset of communication. People are
using the power of television to influence people through the segment or shows in
Television. The existent of television are teaches us about countries and cultures and we
can enjoy so much kind of entertainment such as comedian, game show, TV shows or
anything to entertain ourself.
A television Show often simply well known as TV show is any content that has been
produced for broadcast via over-the-air, satellite cable or the new ways television stream
their channel are through online stream. Most of the people nowdays typically viewed on a
television set. Many previous studies, which were rooted in Uses and Gratification theory,
consistently found that interpersonal u2wasazx bfewlity or social interaction was gratification
that people seek from watching television . The measurement items of the social interaction
construct from the studies conducted before in the in the past we can see it truly represents
the role of television as a medium that provides an environment for social interaction.
Meaning that, people are using television as their medium to interact with other
people and they follow the trend from television programme. The measurement items
indicate that people watched television because it’s something to do when friends come over
and, so they can be with other members of the family or friends who are watching. In a
single platform era, it was not uncommon for families and friends to gather together to watch
television. Indeed, television was an important media that made individuals come together
for social interaction. However, multiple platforms and multiple television sets in the
environment have turned video consumption into a more individualized experience rather
than a group experience. Furthermore, the number of single-family homes has increased
over the past several decades. Nowadays, we can see that all household in the world will
have television. Compare to the past television only available only in certain place. If you
want to watch Television than you need to go to any near food stall or other places that
provide Television.
In Malaysia, since 2016 has programme in television has shown a good increases.
The breaking of ratings records of recent televised events, such as the Akademi Fantasia,
Mentor TV3 , and other reality programme in Malaysia, has driven the television industry to
pay acute attention to reality show in Malaysia. The show that I would like to choose to make
a comparison is the reality show from media prima berhad TV3 and ASTRO. The show are
well known as Clever Girl (TV3) and Dewi Remaja (Astro). This two reality show has almost
the same aim and objective. At the end of this reality show there will be one winner to be
crown as Clever Girl or Dewi Remaja. This two show has the same higher rating for the
viewer. But the higher rating are more to controvercial rating that has been rated by the
viewer. This two shows has shown up some controversy among the people in Malaysia.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE SHOW
The choose of anchor and host are one of the factor why this two show are
become high rated in local Television Show. For example, Clever Girl in TV3 has
brought one of the biggest host well known as Aliff Satar and Dewi Remaja has
brought Scha Al-yahya become one of their host and bring the number one host
in Malaysia Datuk Aznil Nawawi in their final stage of Dewi Remaja. Have a very
good host are very important to make sure that the vibe of the show are alive.
From the observation that researcher has been made through watching the
videos on youtube we can make a conclusion that a big reality show need a good
host or anchor to drive the programme to be a better program. This is important
to make sure that the show become good rated on TV without negative critisicm
from the audience.
2.4 Audience Engagement
Audience Engagement are one of the important element that should be
preserve when you start produce a Television Show. With a good and great
audience engagement they will create a high rate in viewer when the show go
live on television. From the observation that has been made researcher can
see that this two television show are likely used the social media to make
more audience engagement. They used social media to update almost
everything they did in the show. For the dewi remaja show we can see that
the contestant are using more new media to approach the audience. Besides
that, Clever Girl are using more traditional method when they likely to made a
diary everyday about what is happening to the contestant everyday live on
TV3.
To the Dewi Remaja, because of the media has made a convergence
from the traditional media to the new media. Dewi Remaja organizer are
preffered their contestant to do a lots of engagement through the social
Media. They believe that the Social Media can spread the news faster
compared to traditional media. In 2018, their winner for Dewi Remaja has
become of the hottest topic on the internet because of the controversial
picture that has been taken in one of the local club Malaysia. This issue has
made a very bad impression of people to the Dewi Remaja.
2.5 Publicity Stunt
From the observation that we can find from these two tv shows we can see
that there’s so much publicity stunt that has been made to make sure that
people will recognize their existence on the Internet. By making the publicity
stunt, automatically people will start looking or search for the programme on
the internet or on the Television itself. Some of them will spread the publicity
stunt through the internet or through their daily dairy that has been go live on
television.
For example, for the Dewi Remaja itself they has made a corporate social
responsibility (CSR) Programme to show a good responsibility and
awareness to the people. Compared to Clever Girl, their activity are quiet less
and not to much just like The Dewi Remaja. But for the Clever Girl, some of
the contestant are doing publicity stunt on live show which is it is very
unclever action for the contestant to do something stupid on live tv show. By
doing this publicity stunt public will more aware about existence of this two
show.
2.6 Prizes and Merchandise Offered
Between of this two programme Clever Girl are winning to a biggest
and highest price compare to Dewi Remaja. This is because the winner of
Clever Girl in 2017 has received RM100,000 with trophy. Compared to Dewi
Remaja, that only made RM10,000 to the winner. Althought, Clever Girl are
not classified as high rated viewer among the people in Malaysia but they still
can give a good and valuable prices to the contestant. But then, Dewi Remaja
are more famous compared to the clever girl, meaning that the contestant can
still made more money after the programme has ended. Some of the
contestant of Dewi Remaja, such as Neelofa, Scha Alyahya already made a
name to local industry and give so much contribution in building our local art
industry. In conclusion, quality are taken over money.
3.0 Conclusion and Recommendation
In conclusion, those approach are very important in every television show worldwide.
Without one of the approach maybe the show are little bit lame and cannot reach their
own objective or target to become one of the highest rated show in Television. Those
approach are important to make sure that the show can maintain high demand in the
future. So that they can keep to create more season year by year. Not only that this
credibility that has been preserve seen years by years also should be preserve by the
contestant . They should show a good manner or good attitude at the outside to make
sure they don’t made a bad impression to the public. This reality Show should make sure
they show a good attitude to the people but if there is a issue the rated for the show
might be scratched and it might be effect the organizer.
Besides, those approach are one of the technique that will lead the show to the
success. Without one of the component the show might be not 100% complete or the
organizer cannot achieve their goal or target.
