SL NO DESCRIPTION OF WORKS UNIT QUANTITY

With Contractor's earth of approved quality and Railway's specification, obtained from
outside Railway land with loading, unloading, all lead, lift, ascend, descend, crossing of
1 nullah, road, fencing and any other obstructions etc. including material cost & other 10 m3 1000.00 1511.00

Note:
(i) 25% variation limit shall not be applicable to these items if more than one item is
operated as these items may very widely depending on quantity and nature of soil released
from cutting vide item 1.
(ii) Earthwork shall be done strictly in accordance with the provisions of latest RDSO's
Guidelines for Earthwork in Railway projects, Engineering Code, General Conditions of
Contract & Additional Conditions and Specifications given in the tender document.
(iii) Payment of royalty, taxes, cost of earth and any other incidental charges are to be borne
by the contractor and the quoted rate should include all such charges.
(iv) The contractor shall establish field laboratory with all equipment for conducting
required soil tests and compaction tests at site at his own cost. The contractor shall also
supply required number of printed registers free of cost for recording of test results of
earthwork and compaction tests. The field laboratory shall be equipped with minimum
equipments as listed in the Annexure-X of RDSO’s Guideline no. GE:G-1 for “ Guidelines
for Earthwork in Railway Projects”-July-2003 to facilitate the following minimum tests:

(b) Atterberg's limits-liquid limits & plastic limits
(c) Optimum moisture content (OMC), Maximum Dry Density (MDD) and Relative Density
(d) Placement moisture content & in-situ density
The field lab should be manned adequately by contractor at his own cost with trained staff
capable of carrying out required investigation, soil testing and quality control at site.
(v) Samples of earth along with its test results as prescribed and slope analysis results shall
be submitted to the Engineer-in-Charge for approval before making the embankment.
(vi) Soil testing shall be done at frequency of at least one test at every change of soil strata
subject to minimum of one test for every 5000 cum to assess suitability of fill material and
to lay down OMC and MDD/Relative density. The cost/charges of all such testing shall be
borne by the contractor.
(vii) Before starting of earthwork, contractor will have to make proper benching as per site
condition on existing embankment slopes as per RDSO's guidelines and also remove all
grasses, bushes etc from proposed area of work. No extra payment will be made for such
works.
(viii) The contractor shall take undisturbed samples as per IS : 2132-1986 of the parent soil
over which the embankment shall rest and shall conduct prescribed laboratory test to enable
analysis of stability of the base to asses its long term stability and distance of borrow pits
etc. test results and technical observations should be submitted for approval of the engineer-
in-charge.
(ix) If any service roads, culverts, bridges etc. are to be built, the contractor shall build the
same at his own cost, including ramps for transporting earth to make embankment. All the
service roads are to be maintained by the contractor at his own cost. No separate payment
for such works shall be made.
(x) Payment of this item will be made as per finished and approved cross section
measurement only after necessary compaction and all necessary testing for compaction in
layers to be done by the contractor up to the satisfaction of engineer-in-charge. Lead, if
applicable, will be measured based on c.g. of earth moved only after compaction.
(xi) Before undertaking the earthwork involving movement of machinery, equipments, road
vehicles etc in the vicinity of existing track, the contractor shall ensure protection of track as
per direction of engineer at site as per item no. 10 of Schedule-A-I for which payment will
be made separately under item no.10 of Schedule-A-I.
(xii) Before quoting the rate, the contractor should inspect the site to assess the lead, site condition etc.
(xiii) Spacing of trolley refuges should be as per RDSO’s Guidelines (Latest)/ instruction of
site engineer, if site condition such warrants from safety point of view.
(xiv) Before the work is started, the whole area between the toes of the bank or top of
cutting, shall be properly cleared by the contractor of all Trees, Roots, Heavy grass and all
obstructions. No extra payment will be made for such work. All trees of girth (parameter)
more than 12 inch at 1 meter above the bottom shall be the property of the Railway and the
contractor shall, after uprooting, deposit the same with Railway. Before cutting trees,
necessary permission required from the forest department or any other appropriate, shall be
taken by the contractor on the basis of Railway’s recommendatory letter.
Supplying & driving approx. 5.5 m to 7 m. long hard wood piles (without any joint) of
Eucalyptus or similar type of dia 125mm (average) for protection of bank slope in water
bodies, bridge approaches & other locations, if required, as directed by Railway engineer at
site including supplying and erecting derrick, monkey and necessary equipments to
2 penetrate the piles in any types of soil, removal of the equipments from the site after 1 m 500.00 97.00
completion of the work. The rate includes all cost of material, labour, transportation, lead,
lift, descend, ascend and two coats of coal tarring on pile complete in all respect.
Note:
(i) Payment will be made as per actual length of pile supplied at site. Driving shall be done
to the required depth as directed by Engieer-at-site.
(ii) All sorts of safety aspects to be observed by the contractor at his own risk and cost
during execution of work by the side of running track and over-head live wires.
(iii) Each pile shall be of average diameter 125mm. The average diameter of a pile will be
its actual diameter measured at a point located at a distance 1/3rd of its length from its head.
3 Supplying and fixing bitumen drum sheet by nailing to wooden piles
125 mm dia (supplied and driven vide item no. 6 of this schedule) with nailing as directed
by the Engineer at site for guarding against slippage of earth as per approved drawing. The
rate includes supplying of all necessary materials, fittings like nails to hold in proper 1 m2 100 157.00
position, all labour, equipment, all lead, lift, descent, crossing of Rly. tracks, fencing etc.
complete in all respect.

Note: This item to be operated on specific written instruction of site engineer about location
and quantity.
Providing temporary barricading for protection of running trains from the working
locality of new bank during plying of earth, moving equipments, machineries etc. The
barricading will be done by vertical posts of hard wood ballah of 75 mm to 100 mm dia
fixed at a spacing of 1.5 m center to center distance and horizontally connected (minimum
in three layers) with each other by bamboos (dia 50 mm minimum) fixed properly. The
height of barricading to be kept minimum 1.20 m above rail level of existing running track
4 with suitable foundation to sustain the alignment. The barricading to be provided at distance 1 m 200.00 113.00
of 3.0 m from the running track. Safety strips clearly visible during night will also to be
fixed along with barricading. The rate includes supply of all materials required for making
barricading, labour, tools and plants. Rate also includes earthwork in excavation required to
fix ballah post minimum
75 mm into the ground/formation and as per instruction of site in-charge. Barricade will be
removed after completing all activities viz. earth work, blanketing etc. and only after the
instruction of site engineer. The material should be arranged by the contractor to cover at
least one stage of minimum 1 km to work parallely at number of location at time. (Only one
time payment will be paid in the activity if earthwork and blanketing is staggered.) The
fencing made of ballah and bamboo will be used. The damaged/missing ballah/bamboo
should be recouped at contractor's cost. After completion of the work, barricading will be
taken back by the contractor. Payment will be made for each meter length covered by
barricade. The rate includes providing safety strips along with barricading.
Note:
This item is to be operated exclusively for bridge works/platform for erection, if required,
after approval of Engineer in charge.
