l'he Government is seriously concerned about the number of road
accidents, injuries and fatalities in the state. The road accident occurred for the
period from January 2017 to December 20t7 was 65,562 and for the period
from January 2018 to"December 2O18 was 63,920. Whereas, the road accident
deaths for corresponding period was 16,157 and L2,2LO respectively. Apart
from the above deaths, the number of fatalities due to non wearing of helmet in
two wheeler for the year 2017 was 5322 and for the year 2018 was 3965.
Similarly the number of fatalities due to non wearing of seat belt in four wheeler
(Car) for the year 2017 was 3994 and for the year 20tB was 3068

wearing of seat belts happened in the S

Act 1988, every person while riding a two wheeler should wear helmets and as
per the rule 138(3) of the Central Motor Vehicles rules, 1989, every person
driving a car and seated in the front seat should wear the seat belt while the
vehicle is in motion.
The Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety has directed the State
Government to reduce the fatalities by taking various measures. The Transport
Department is creating road safety awareness among the public especially two
wheeler rider and four wheeler rider,

Every person in Government service should have a vital responsibility to


be a role model to the public by wearing helmet while riding the two wheeler
and wearihg seat belt while travelling in four wheeler,

request that all the employees of your departrnent in this state
may kindly be advised to wear the helmet and seat belt in order to have a safe
travel.
