Guidelines for Listening Quiz

Office of Academic Research

QUIZ DESIGN

Please follow the considerations below:

 Design your test items focusing on the desired learning objective(s)/outcome(s) of
the lesson. Eg. Listening for gist, details, making inferences, etc.

 For practical reasons, use the multiple choice format for the quiz items (4 questions
with 3 alternatives each). You can also use an outline or chart format, if need be.

 Use either an internal (textbook – lesson B’s) or external (YouTube or another you
can find) source for the listening passage.
QUIZ DESIGN

Please follow the considerations below:

 The listening passage that you choose must resemble that of the course (rate of
delivery, topic, length, etc.) as much as possible.

 Remember that for evaluative purposes, Ss are not to be shown the script
beforehand.

 Please make sure the questions , font(s) and/or chart(s) are clear and large enough.
 Remember that Ss’ are not to be tested on skills they have not been taught.
Administration Procedures
 The two quizzes will be used to provide individual grades for the two listening
objectives in the e-classlist.

 Quiz # 1 (corresponding to the first half of the course) must be administered by

day 7; quiz # 2 (corresponding to the remaining half) must be administered by day
15.

 The seating arrangement for the quizzes must be the same as that of written
exams.

 Teachers can project the questions on the class screen or write the test items on
the bb.
Administration Procedures
 Students are either to be given a slip of paper or they can use one of their own for
them to record their answers. Items must be numbered from 1 – 4 so Ss can write
a, b, or c next to each.

 Make sure Ss register their data on the paper (name, course, schedule, etc) so you
won’t get confused with the grade assignment.

 Listening passage is to be played twice. When done, ask Ss to stop writing and
collect papers in orderly fashion. Ss can then resume their class seating
arrangement.

 Ss’ can take notes if they need to; however, bear in mind that you are to collect all
papers (answer sheet and note-taking paper).
Grading system
 The grading system will be the same as the one used for the Reading quiz. See chart
below.

 Please provide results and feedback no later than 3 days after the quiz has been
administered.
