ABSTRACT

Title: ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE BENEFICIARIES OF

THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES –
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (NCIP-EAP)

Name: Dong A. Obispo

Degree: Master of Arts in Education

Major: Major in Educational Leadership

Institution: University of St. La Salle, Bacolod City

This is a descriptive study which determined and analyzed the academic

performance of the NCIP-EAP beneficiaries in San Jose District, SY 2015-2016. There

were 36 beneficiaries and all of them were included in this study.

Findings revealed that the beneficiaries of the NCIP-EAP generally had nuclear

type of families; had 5-6 family members; had monthly income below the poverty line;

had farmer parents; and had parents who mostly acquired elementary education.

Student beneficiaries mostly acquired average academic performance and had less

involvement in extra-curricular activities.

Students had not developed the desirable habits to achieve good academic

performance. Students had not developed regular study habits in reading, note taking,

studying, memorizing and preparing for a test. Students’ problems were mostly in

acquiring Math and Science competencies; far distance of home to school; and

inadequate allowance.
xii

Based on the findings and conclusions, the study recommends that beneficiaries

must develop study habits to improve their academic performance; and they could adopt

the study habit techniques developed in the action plan. For Teachers, they must provide

full support to the NCIP-EAP beneficiaries; and must ensure that they teach practical

study habits to the NCIP-EAP beneficiaries and monitor how students are applying the

techniques. For the school administrators, they must provide programs to support the

NCIP-EAP beneficiaries; they could look for sponsors to provide one-year school

supplies to lessen financial needs of the students; and put up clubs or organization in

school to support the NCIP-EAP beneficiaries.
