PLAN OF INVESTIGATION
The portfolio assesses the extent to which sports is useful for the
growth and development of the mental facilities of students and its necessity
in the schools for the welfare of students. To evaluate this, this investigator
will focus on the associated benefits of this investigation to me as English
Student.
As an English student, this SBA will greatly benefit me. The researcher
hopes to develop the ability to deal with setbacks, working better with others,
relaxing more and remaining focused.
Finally, the researcher would obtain relevant information using from
books, carrying out surveys and exploring the internet. He will then arrive at
decisive conclusion to create his portfolio.

THE THREE PIECES
Poem: Benefits of Sports
Poet: Avindra Seepersaud
Sports is like the schoolmaster;
It teaches the student to strive
While pushing you to the limit,
Playing sports make you feel alive.

Sports improves body posture

And Body Mass Index too
It lowers your blood pressure
And raises bone density for you

Sports can solve a million issues these days

It can even change your financial status,
From a volunteer to a billionaire
Earning wages to which the height of a hill cannot compare

Sports is the breeding ground to teamwork,

Making friends and meeting new people
It is the perfect self-motivator
Sports help us to build healthy relations.

REFLECTION
How the materials that I have selected have shaped my thinking on
Sports.
The Poem on sports directed me to believe that this topic is not one that
is limited to one of class of people, but rather sports have no restrictions on
age, race, nationality, or religion. It is open to anyone who has to love and
passion for playing, watching or even teaching it.
The second piece is a flowchart on sports which shows that playing
sports does not only provide one benefit of physical enhancement but also a
variety of health, social and economic benefits which makes playing sport a
wise and productive idea at any time.
Finally, the model on sports assures that in playing sports it is not
merely given to one activity only, but rather anyone with the adequate skills
in whatever area of sports they love to play can advance in that area and excel
in performance, also in more than one sporting activity.

Reflection on the use of language in the created pieces
The poem is written in Standard English. This language is used because it
provides a clearer understanding of how playing sports can be incorporated
into one’s life and provide a better outcome at any stage and in different
ways. Literary devices are used in the poem to draw the reader’s attention on
the benefits of sports. The literary devices used in this poem are similes,
rhyme and repetition. Repetition is shown in the first line of each stanza. The
word “Sports” is repeated to emphasize that the benefits of sport are very
appealing. Simile was use in the poem to show comparison. In line 1 “Sport
is like the schoolmaster” one item is being compared to another item using
‘like’. Rhyme is present in each stanza of the poem.
The flowchart uses a word connection format to show the link of each one of
the listed benefit to sports and how they further branch off into smaller
categories that it might clearly be seen how sport reaches wide and far.
The other piece uses a 3D depiction to express playing sports and some of the
different types of sports that are common played by creating a track and field
scene that is of national origin so as to show the benefits of sports.

How the S.B.A process has helped me to become a better person
Completing this English S.B.A has benefitted me a lot as it helped me to
improve my abilities to work in group(teamwork), function effectively in
groups, and be prompt to meet deadlines.
The process of doing this English SBA has helped me to develop an essential
skill which is working as member of a team. By co-operating with the
members in the group, I was able to improve my portfolio and to correct my
mistakes. Also I learned to listen to my group members and to respect their
views on topics.
Also my skill to read and to analyze what I have read was developed when I
was doing this SBA.
Finally, this SBA has been very exceptional and amazing as I was able to
remain focus to meet deadlines. My teacher checked different aspect of the
SBA every week and by doing this I was able to understand the importance
of meeting deadlines.

WRITTEN REPORT
Group Report
For the successful completion of this report, the group members met with
each other and examined all the pieces that they had made or acquired. The
three best pieces were selected by the group members without a bicker or a
fret, hence, making our selection process much easier.

A poem by Christopher was selected because of the way it fully brought his
sub topic, a model by Avindra, which was chosen because of its originality
and a very realistic way of representing an actual field and finally a collage
by Shanae’ which was chosen because of the way it portrayed the injuries of
athletes; it made them seem fun.

These three pieces that were chosen, best suited our topic. Upon completion
of this report we came to the realization that we all agreed on our topic
without any hesitation. This was so because of our great face-to face
interaction on regular occasions and us working harmoniously.

As a result, we grew and learnt as individuals rather than as a group because

most tasks had to be done independently. Most times, we were not able to
meet as a group and only did so when instructed by subject teacher. With that
being said, our group was very effective and productive at the end of each
given task because of our willingness to cooperate.

Benefit of Sports
Good afternoon everyone, my name is Avindra Seepersaud and I am in Grade
11 S1. The oral presentation will be a Poem. The reason for selecting poem is
to outline the importance and benefits of sports in today’s society. By using a
poem, the message will be easily presented to the audience through different
literary devices because of the structure it is written in rather than using
drama or prose which can be very long and hard to construct.
Due to technological development, sports have been relinquished. In this
presentation I wish to enlighten you on how vital sports is to one’s life as he/
she will benefit from it economically, socially and be in better health.
I have gathered information for my poem from the internet and also from the
“English Alive Book 4”. The information has been very helpful as it
improved the vocabulary and structure of my poem. The poem was written in
standard English. This language is used because it provides a clearer
understanding of how playing sports can be incorporated into one’s life and
provide a better outcome at any stage and in different ways.
