INSULATORS:

OUR EXPERIMENT
By: Zena, Manon, Wout
What is an insulator?
● Plastic, rubber, glass, air, wood and diamond are insulators.
● A thermal insulator is something that prevents the flow of heat or sound
● There are 3 main ways that heat can travel: convection, conduction, and
radiation
Insulators: their use in houses
● Every day, the heat that we lose from our homes has a significant change.
Through insulation, we can save heat and money.
● Heat usually escaped from doors, windows or roofs
● In the winter it is important to have good insulation on the roof and wall ,
since heat rises
● In the summer insulation on the outside is more important to reflect the heat
radiation of the sun
Materials Used
WOOL: CARDBOARD:
● Works well because ALUMINIUM FOIL:
● Traps air in
of the crimps of wool ● Good insulator

fibers. because it
between its

● Stops

form a thermal air flow
barrier.

RUBBER:
AIR PODS:
● The electrons are
● Bad conductor,
tightly bound, not
molecules far
shared
apart

RESULT GRAPH
In real houses
● These insulations can
1. Fiberglass insulation (replaces wool) resist water/ moist
● Resistable/ durable
2. Spray foam insulation (replaces plastic) ● Safe for humans
● You need to be able to
3. Cellulose insulation (replaces cardboard) add or take it away
(handy)
4. Mineral wool insulation (replaces wool)
