Practicum Experience (Minnechaug High)

Student Feedback Analysis

I conducted the survey on 5/8/19. I was only able to give the pre-downloaded survey to
my H-block class. My class consisted of 28 sophomores who I had daily, and 6 juniors who I
had every other day. The students were given 5 minutes to complete the survey at the end of
the 90 minute block. In my directions I explained how they survey would be anonymous and it
was a requirement for my practicum at Springfield College.

ESE Feedback Analysis→
Q1 - 32 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This indicates I was able
to create a supportive relationship even when students felt their work was not adequate to meet
the classroom work expectations.
Q2 - 28 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data validates my
use of checking for understanding. This students were able to recall my constant confirmation of
what I was teaching by asking the students reiterate what content I had just gone over.
Q3 - 29 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data validates my
incorporation of guided discovery. I frequently used open ended questions to teach fundamental
or tactical concepts from my lesson objectives.
Q4 - 10 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data showed that the
students were not put in a situation where they felt challenged after they had completed their
work. I attribute this data to my teaching style. I gave assessments at the end of the class, so
students finished the assessments before they left the gym to change. I never provided more
than one assessment for the students to complete if they finished the first early.
Q5 - 20 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This showed I rarely used
peer teaching as a strategy. This is a teaching style I really need to work on. The students were
right, I did not challenge them by delegating content into subgroups to be taught independently.
I anticipate on incorporating this teaching style down the road when I establish my own teaching
environment and classroom relationships.
Q6 - 30 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data showed the
students felt I was not wasting their time in class. This data is extremely important to me.
Especially considering almost every other class had multiple students sit out daily. I attribute all
my students consistently participating a result of their feelings that I am not wasting their time.
Q7 - 25 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. I attribute this data to my
pairing of partners and teams approach. I often grouped students with their friends or other
classmates who I knew they were comfortable with. This ultimately allowed for students to be
comfortable to seek help from one another when they were confused or misunderstood
directions/tactics/skill cues.
Q8 - 31 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data showed that I
was very accomodating in my directions and expectations. I resonate these results because I
feel it is very important to take responsibility as a teacher for your students learning. If the
students struggled with a concepts I was very reflective and adapted my further teaching styles
to help the students understand the material a different way.
Q9 - 30 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data shows that the
students felt competent in being able to exemplify they understand the material. I attribute this to
my assessments, and techniques for checking for understanding. I used physical assessments,
verbal assessments, and written assessments to check for understanding.
Q10 - 27 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data indicates the
students were interested in the units and topics I taught in class. I often asked the students what
units they wanted to do next. I did not let them choose exactly what they want, but I often gave
them options and allowed the class to vote.
Q11 - 29 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data shows that my
feedback was effective with the students. Feedback is something I pride myself for. I really try
and constantly express both positive specific and corrective specific feedback using
the”sandwich” method. This allows the students to feel rewarded when they do something right,
and also know exactly what they need to change for the future and why.
Q12 - 27 of the 34 students responded strongly agree or agree. This data relates for my
openness of different points of view. I was very open to constructive feedback from the students
so I think that my open minded approach tricked down into my class. Students were very
respectful toward each other's perspectives.
