I. INTRODUCTION:

Education is life itself. As long as man lives, the influence of education remains
tangible in his actions and demeanor. Good and proper education is inalienable and
lasting. In fact, the economic grandeur of a society depends largely on the education
of its citizens. With proper education, a man is most likely going to be successful in
his chosen career. He is impossible to deceive but easy to lead. He could easily cope
with the drastic changes and uncertainties that the modern world offers nowadays
so much withstand the crucial test of times.

Moreover, this indifference towards education has is triggered by considerable

constraints such as poverty, inaccessibility to formal schooling, lack of interest to
pursue degree courses and lack of motivation, among others. One bureau of the
Department of Education with the general goal of eradicating illiteracy and catering
quality and excellent basic education to out-of-school youth (OSY) and out-of-
school children (OSC) who are the direct beneficiaries of the projects and programs
of ALS. To this extent, the ALS service provider of the North II District found it not
only best but also imperative to conduct Accreditation and Equivalency as well as
Literacy cum Livelihood Program to specific areas of the district where possible
alternative mode of learning is necessary.

In the North II District which where I am assigned as Mobile Teacher, I

handled 2 sessions with 25 learners for every week . These learners are from Purok
Gumamela, Rosal, Rosas, Anthurium, and Bougainvillea, Barangay Acmac, Iligan
City.

IV. SUMMARY :

It is our mission as an Instructional Manager to reach the unreached

learners here in North II District. Specifically learners are from Puroks Gumamela,
Rosal, Rosas, Anthurium, and Bougainvillea of Barangay Acmac, Iligan City.

Prior to the implementation of the Literacy Program, the learners did not
take heed of the importance of education. Some are just contented of the livelihood
they have at present, which they need to support the needs of their families and
working such as fishing, fetching seamen using bangka, selling goods and the like.
Many resorted to this kind of living without foreseeing the importance of education.
These made me realize to help them reach education.
As an Instructional Manager, I focused on these things for the learners to
improved and succeed; the functional literacy, communicating effectively, solving
problems scientifically, creatively and think critically, used resources sustainably
and productively, and expanding learners’ world view.
The Community Learning Center (CLC) is just a walking distance from my
house. Even we conducted our classes under the Talisay tree, in a beach resort or
even sometimes borrowing someone’s house, these things were not hindrances for
us. Because of my learners’ dedication and passion, and God’s presence and Divine
protection, it makes me strive more in helping my learners to succeed. I learned to
love my learners and I learned a lot from them.
Barangay Acmac is 3 kilometers away from the North II District. Learners
enrolled to my session because of some reasons. First, my session has always
enthusiasm, encouragement, anticipation and cooperative interaction. Second,
flexible schedule of Literacy session during Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Finally , I am looking forward to better serve those who are in need of my
services. With God’s blessing this will be made possible.

V . PROBLEMS MEET

Every program implementation is coupled with indispensable constraints,

which educate the facilitator so that better strategies would be employed in

the ensuing endeavor. Among the problems met during months

implementation of the Literacy cum Livelihood program are:

1. Reluctance and doubt of some people regarding the benefits of the ALS

programs

2. Irregular attendance of learners in the learning sessions conducted due to

their works. Earning money was their priorities to sustain their basic needs.

3. Insufficient supply of learning materials/modules

4. Lack of financial assistance from the government

VI . RECOMMENDATION
The following solutions and recommendations are highly
recommended to address the main constraints:

1. Intensify advocacy and social mobilization with the emphasis

on bringing to public attention the manifold benefits of various
programs and projects of the Alternative Learning System.
2. Integrate livelihood program regarding the major programs of
the ALS to encourage attendance and active participation of the
learners.
3. Adopt the system of direct instruction utilizing various kinds of
learning strategies and providing learners with different activities
to stir up their interest.
