Materials: the book (the sandwich swap), sheet of paper, colors, pencil.
Standard(s):
CCSS.ELA- Literacy. R L. 1.2 With prompting and support, retell familiar stories, including key details.
CCSS.ELA- Literacy. R L. 1.3 With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major
events in a story.
Objective(s):
We all come from different backgrounds. Our differences can help bring us closer together and learn new
things about one another.
After being read a story, students will identify and describe characters and settings from a story using key
details to make at least one accurate statement with 80% accuracy as measured by teacher records and
observations.
Procedure
Introduce: Today, we are going to look at another way to show kindness toward others.
(show the book cover) This book is about 2 friends that have a disagreement. Let's see if they
Read: The teacher will read the book to the class while. The class is sitting while they are
listening to the story, paying attention for key point for the discussion after the story.
Discuss: How would you feel if this happened to you? What are your thoughts on this?

Activities:
After the teacher read this story to the students, we will talk about how each of us come from
different backgrounds and shares different traditions and foods that others may find strange.
The teacher will give each student a piece of paper in which they have to write or/and draw
they favorite part of the story then they will share with the class.
The teacher will ask students to tell what their favorite sandwich is.
Evaluation:
The teacher will evaluate the ability of each student when they retell a story or talk about an
event that happens in the story.
