Bullying is usually defined as an aggressive behavioral pattern among school-aged children and

teenagers that implicates apparent power imbalance. Bullying comes in many different forms,
from cyber bulling to physical bullying. It’s all wrong and it has to stop. Bullying has a real
negative effect on the victim’s life. Those who are constantly bullied can be pushed to the
breaking point, where they could end up hurting themselves or others.

Why do students bully their class mates? It is believed that students bully others because they are
insecure and lack confidence. They use bullying tactics to impress other students. Bullies thrive
on attention they get from their fellow classmates. Their hurtful actions make them feel powerful
and popular. Bullies pick on students who they think are weak in physical stature, easily
intimated, or discriminated against. Bullying occurs on a regular basis in many schools. It’s
usually started by the same person who gets a few other students to join in on the bullying.
Unfortunately, the majority of students are spectators laugh out loud or snicker behind the
victim’s back. They may not directly bully the victim, but by standing on the sidelines giving
their attention to the actions they encourage they bully. These are students that can make a
positive change to stop bullying. As students, we can take action to stop bullying in our schools.

Many students are afraid to report bullying incidents they observe because they might become
targets themseves. Preventing and stopping bullying involves a commitment to creating a safe
environment where children can thrive, socially and academically, without being afraid. Parents
and teachers should both take concern on this serious matter. Teachers should be knowledgeable
and observant of bullying incidents around and take action against it. Meanwhile parents should
have open-ended conversations with their children and listen to their point of view as well. They
can also instruct children on handling bullying and being able to defend themselves if they are
being bullied.

In conclusion, if proper steps are taken by parents and teachers to address this matter, bullying
can be stopped. Because of social media, it is easy for bullying to escalate and the victims
become tormented and the end result can be tragic. There must be a proactive approach to
handling this matter from all sides. As long as schools and parents can approach this in a level-
headed way, then one day the bullying can finally stop.
