ABOUT THIS STUDY PACK


The main resource
The activities in this study pack will be based on this two-
minute animation video about How to Make a Sandwich.
This video shows how to make a sandwich started from
the ingredients need, the steps until it served.
THEORETICAL
FRAMEWORK
To balance the future challenge which based on the idea
called knowledge-based society, students in Indonesia are
demanded to be able to compete in this globalization
development. Not only students, teachers also have to own
the creativity and extraordinary skills in order to achieve the
goal to make the student becoming the skillful ones. This
situation implies to English language teaching where now its
teaching practice adapt English as a mean of communication.
Thus, the students as well as the teachers could be able to
teach and learn English in order to be able to communicate.
 
As now technology experienced a huge revolution, the media
use in English teaching need to be upgraded in order the
students could experience different learning and to improve
students’ creativity. Consequently, in English teaching,
teachers need to keep on improving every aspect they have
including the teaching materials and the media to facilitate
students’ learning. For many years, the use of visual material
has already been implemented in the classroom and one of the
example of the visual material is by using Animation video.
Since there is plenty amount of animation videos available on
the internet, teachers need to consider the most suitable one
as the proper source in teaching English.

With regard to the background, this study pack is based on


curriculum 2013 to meet the demand current global trends.
Curriculum 2013 has already fulfilled all the requirements
since its purpose are to prepare the Indonesian students to
have the ability as individuals and citizens who are creative,
and to encourage learners or students to be better in
observing, to be able asking questions, reasoning, and
communicating what they earn or they know after receiving
learning materials. Therefore, the result based on this
curriculum has represents what needs to be done especially in
English language teaching. 
THE
ORGANIZATION
OF THE STUDY
PACK
This study pack is divided into three parts which are
in chronological order; Pre-Viewing Activities, While-
Viewing Activities, and Post Viewing Activities. The
activities difficulty levels are gradually raised from
prior activity to next activities where sometimes
require the students to recall the previous material
learned to jump to the next activities.

OBJECTIVES
 After completing all activities in this study pack, the
students are expected to:

1. Identify the social function, text structure, and


language faature of simple procedure text.

2. Arrange the simple proedure text writtenly with


noticing the social function, text structure, and
langauge elements correcly and contextually
PRE-VIEWING ACTIVITIES
Activity 1 
Focus (Warming up, brainstorming)
Skill: Speaking
Interaction: Whole class- individual
Materials: LCD projector, Laptop
Procedure:
The teacher shows some picture about food such as fried rice,
coffee, instant noodle, etc. The students are asked whether
they like those foods and whether they have ever made one or
some of them by themselves. 

Activity 2
Focus: Generate interest in topic
Skill: Writing, reading 
Interaction: Individuals-whole class
Materials: white-board, board marker
Procedure:
The teacher the tries to asked some students what ingredients
need and the steps to make for example instant noodle sand
asked some students to try to write it down on the whiteboard.
After some students mentioned the ingredients and how they
make the instant noodle, the teacher checks the answer and
then read aloud the answer together. 
WHILE-VIEWING ACTIVITY
Activity 3
Focus: Observing detail information
Skill: writing
Interaction: the whole class
Materials: LCD Projector, PC, dictionary
Procedure:
The teacher plays the video and explain to the students that it is
the example of procedure text. This is used when somebody
wants to make something, to do something, to get somewhere.
The generic structure of a procedure text consists of the aim, the
ingredients, the methods (steps).

Activity 4
Focus: conjunction, noun, and action verbs
Skill: writing speaking
Interaction: in pairs, the whole class
Materials: LCD Projector, PC, dictionary
Procedure:
While watching the video the teacher asks the students to find
out the word they do not understand in how to make sandwich
and find out the vocabulary meaning. For example: first, second,
third, next, put, cut, slice, add, serve, cheese, chili

Focus: remembering
Skill: writing 
Interaction: individual
Materials: worksheet
Procedure:
Teacher worksheet to the students about how to make a sandwich
and ask them to fill it based on what they already learnt

Materials: paper, pens
Procedure:
The students are asked to create their own procedure text based
on whatever they want to make as creative as possible which
also supported by the picture that they draw by themselves.
Activity 7
Focus: presenting
Skill: speaking
Interaction: individual
Materials: paper
Procedure:
The teacher asks the students to present their own procedure
text in front of the classroom.
