gave you artistic skills, a deep mind, or knowledge, they are all a part of his plan. I
choose to teach my students a lesson on maps and use the assignments I did, because
I feel all my students could contribute their unique skills to it. Learning about maps and
how to use them are an important skill in our world. This knowledge will allow you to get
to anywhere you want to go and from there you can use your gifts. I feel that the
classroom map project will be a great assignments for all my students gifts. It can be an
artistic map, a detailed map, or a simple map. No matter their skills, they can create the
My lesson is on maps and I feel that this will greatly impact my students
worldview. Being able to identify where different places are and what life or cultures are
like in different parts of the world is a big concept that all kids need to learn. I plan on
helping them identify the concept of how growing up in Michigan affected their life and
their families values or traditions. Some of my students are from different countries and
speak different language so having them tell a little about how life is different from
Michigan to where they lived before. I can use this in my map lesson by having them
identify where they lived before and presenting the idea that life and cultures aren’t the
so I think it will be interesting to show them how far China is from Michigan. Maps are a
very important thing to learn so that they have an idea of how big the world is and gain
some perspective. This leads into the part of my lesson on the compass rose and scale.
Learning directions will be a big part of helping them identify where a place is in relation
to where they are. As for scale, I want them to be able to understand that a map is a
much smaller version of our world. This relates to worldview by gaining the knowledge
that parts of the world, much bigger than Michigan, have cultures and religions much
different than ours. I plan on relating this to their culture classes they attend by asking
them about the differences between Chinese and American cultures. Also, I want to
touch on the subject that not everyone in American has the same cultures and religions,
which they have touched on in their culture class. I will explain to them how people from
all over the world live in different places and bring their cultures with them. This is what
makes parts of the world so diverse. Also, in my class we have been talking about
vacations and the places that they want to travel to someday so I feel like it would be
fun for them to be able to see how far these places they want to travel are from
Michigan. I could also ask them about the cultures that are in these places they want to
go and what might be different there, relating to the mountains and oceans lesson they
learned. Many of them have never been out of the state so I wonder how much
understanding they have of the outside world. Through the immersion program, I know
they have gained knowledge about the Chinese culture so it will be interesting to see
how much of that has influenced their worldview compared to someone who has not
had that knowledge given to them. Also, relating to their last unit, they learned about
mountains, valleys, lakes, plains, ect., I can ask about the places that have mountains
or if a place is on an ocean, unlike Michigan. I think that this lesson will clearly broaden
their worldview and given them some curiosity about what other places might be like.
