s���i-sthiti-pralaya jata t�h�ra k�ra�

pra�amaha-obeisances; n�r�ya�a-to Lord N�r�ya�a; an�di-beginningless; nidhan-


dissolution; jata-from whom; t�h�ra-from Him; k�ra�-creation.

I offer my respectful obeisances to Lord N�r�ya�a, who has no beginning, and


who is the creator, maintainer, and destroyer of the material worlds.

eka-bh�be banda har� jo�a kar� h�t


nanda-nandana k���a mora pr��a-n�th

eka-bh�be-with concentration; banda-I offer my respectful obeisances; hari-to


Lord Hari; jo�a-joining; kari-doing; h�t-palms; nanda-nandana k���a-K���a the son
of nanda Maharaja; mora pr��a-n�th-my life and soul.

With folded hands I offer my prayers unto K���a, the son of Nanda Maharaja,
who is my life and soul.*

Note: In �r� Caitanya-carit�m�ta, (Madhya 15.99-100), Lord �aitanya praises


this verse and this book. He says:

"�r� Caitanya Mah�prabhu then said: Gu�ar�ja Kh�n of Kul�na-gr�ma compiled a


book named �r� K���a-vijaya in which there is a sentence revealing the author's
ecstatic love of K���a.
"�r� Caitanya Mah�prabhu then said: `K���a, the son of Mah�r�ja Nanda, is my
life and soul. By this statement I am sold into the hands of the descendents of
Gu�ar�ja Kh�n. "

brahm�-to Brahma; mahe�wara-�iva; banda-I bow; s���ira-of creation; sah�y-


help; ganapati-to Ganesa; pra�amaha-I bow; bighna-hara-who removes obstacles; t�y-
to him.

I offer my respectful obeisances to Brahm� and �iva who help in the creation
of the material world, and to Ga�e�a, who removes obstacles.

k���era caritra kichu karila racan
sarba-deba-ga�e�-of all the demigods; bandiy�-bowing; cara�-to the feet;
k���era-of Lord K���a; caritra-the pastimes; kichu�something; karila-do; racan-
writing.

I bow down to the feet of all the demigods. Now I will write something of Lord
K���a's pastimes.

roga �oka bhaya kichu� na j�ne

k���era-of Lord K���a; pras�de-by the mercy; gopa-the gopas; baise-residing;


b�nd�bane-in V�nd�vana; roga-disease; �oka-lamentation; bhaya-fear; kichu�-
something; na-not; jane-know.

By Lord K���a's mercy, the gopa people in V�nd�vana did not know anything of
disease, lamentation, or fear.

sarba-k�a�a sarba-jana govinda p�ila


janma-janma-k�ta-p�pa saba d�ra haila

sarba-k�a�a-at every moment; sarba-jana-everyone; govinda-K���a; p�ila-


proitected; janma-janma-k�ta-done in many births;p�pa-sins; saba-all; d�ra-far
away; haila-were.

At every moment Govinda protected everyone. All the sins of every past birth
were thrown far away.

hena-k�le haila k���a dw�da�a batsar


bhuvana-mohana r�pa ati-manohar

hena-k�le-at the time; haila-was; k���a-K���a; dw�da�a-twelve; batsa�-years;


bhuvana-mohana-charming the worlds; r�pa-form; at�-manoha�-very handsome.
When He attained the age of twelve years, K���a became very handsome. He
enchanted all the worlds.

p�r�im�ra candra jin� badana-kamal


kha�jana jiniy� �obhe nayana-jugal

p�r�im�ra-full; candra-moon; jini-defeats; badana-kamal-lotus face; kha�jana-


khanjana birds; jiniy�-defeats; �obhe-beautiful; nayana-jugal-pair of eyes.

His lotus face defeated the full moon. His charming eyes defeated the kha�jana
birds.

may�rera puccha �ire ku�ila kuntal


h�r�-ma�i-m��ikya �obhe kar�era ku��al

may�rera-peacock; puccha-feather; �ire-on the head; ku�ila-curly; kuntal-hair;


h�r�-ma��-m��ikya-with diamonds and rubies; �obhe-beautifu;l; kar�era-on the ears;
ku��al-earrings.

He wore a peacock feather atop His curly hair. He wore earrings of rubies and
diamonds.

n�n� bar�era pu�pa-m�l� h�daya-upare


subar�a-a�gur� s�je balay� du� kare

n�n�-many; bar�era-colors; pu�pa-m�l�-flower garland; h�daya-upare�on His


chest; subar�a-gold; a�gur�-ring; s�je-ornament; balay�-bracelet; du�-two; kare-
hands.

On His chest was a flower garland of many colors. On His hands were golden
rings and bracelets.

p�yete nup�ra s�je muku�a �obhe m�the


b�lakera sa�ge batsa rakhe jagann�the

p�yete-on His feet; nup�ra-anklebells; s�je-ornament; muku�a-crown; �obhe-


beautiful; m�the-on His head; b�lakera-of boys; sa�ge-in the company; batsa-calves;
rakhe-protected; jagann�the-the master of the universe.
On His feet were anklets and on His graceful head a crown. Accompanied by many
boys, He who is the master of the universes passed His time protecting the calves.

p�ta-dha��-paridh�na deba bana-m�l�


n�tana meghete jena pa�iche bijal�

p�ta-dha��-paridh�na-wearing a yellow dhoti; deba-body; bana-m�l�a forest


garland; n�tana-new; meghete-raincloud; jena-by which; pa�iche-was; bijal�-
lightning.

His body adorned with a yellow dhot� and a forest-flower garland, He was like
a monsoon cloud accompanied by lightning

l�l�ma�� darpa�a jena mukha niram��


t�ra-majjhe �obhe jena bindu-bindu-gham

l�l�ma�i-pastime jewels; darpa�a-mirror; jena-by which; mukha�face; niram��-


measured; t�ra-majjhe-stars; �obhe-graceful; jena-by whcih; bindu-bindu-gham-drops
of perspiration.

His face was splendid like a mirror of pastime jewels. His drops of
perspiration were like a row of stars.

dekhiy� jubat� saba sthira nahe man


k�mete p��ita gop� cinta k���era cara�

dekhiy�-seeing; jubat�-the girls; saba-all; sthira-steady; nahe-not; man-


heart; k�mete-with desire; p��ita-tormented; gop�-gop�; cinta-thinking; k���era-of
K���a; cara�-the feet.

When they saw K���a, the young girls could not stay peaceful at heart. When
they thought of K���a's feet, the gop�s were tormented by desire.

madane dagadha citta jubat�-sam�j


sw�m�re ch��iy� bhaya kha��ileka l�j

madane-by desire; dagadha-burned; citta-heart; jubat�-sam�j-the girls;


sw�m�re-husband; ch��iy�-leaving; bhaya-fear; kha��ileka-broke; l�j-shyness.
Their hearts burning with passion, and they fear and shyness broken to pieces,
the young girls abandoned their husbands.

r�tr� dine jubat� gobinde haila mati


g�ha-karma ch��ileka sakala jubat�

r�tri-at night; dine-at day; jubat�-the girls; gobinde-in K��n�a; haila-was;


mat�-thought; g�ha-karma-household duties; ch��ileka-abandoned; sakala-all; jubat�-
the girls.

Day and night, the young girls thought of K���a. They could not think of their
household duties.

koth� �che govind�� j�ba t��ra �h��i


kon prak�re t��ra dara�ana p�i

koth�-where; �che-is; govind�i-K���a; j�ba-as much as; t��ra�of Him; �h���-by


Him; kon-what; prak�re-method; t��ra-of Him; dara�ana-seeing; p�i-I will be able.

They thought, "Where is K���a? What shall I do to be able to see Him?"

neha mate govindera cinte gop�-ga�


antarj�m� gos��� j�nila takhan

neha-with love; mate-in the heart; govindera-of K���a; cinte-th�nking; gop�-


ga�-the gop�s; antarj�m�-the Supersoul; gos���-the master; j�nila-knew; takhan-
then.

As they thought of K���a in this way, they could see Him residing in their
hearts.

j�niy� ta govind�� p�t� jogam�y�


kariba ta r�sa-kr��� b�nd�bane giy�

j�niy� ta'-knowing; govind�i-K���a; p�t� jogam�y�-Yogamaya; kariba ta-will be;


r�sa-kr���-rasa dance pastime; b�nd�bane giy�-in V�nd�vana.

Aware of their hearts, K���a will manifest His yogam�y� potency and enjoy a
r�sa-dance pastime with them in V�nd�vana forest.

n�n� brk�a pu�pa-lat� �chaya tath�i

na�il�-walking; jamun�-t�re-by the Yamuna's shore; sundara-handsome; k�n���-


K���a; n�n�-various; brk�a-trees; pu�pa-lat�-flowering vines; �chaya-were; tath�i-
there.

Handsome K���a walked by the Yamun�'s shore, where the trees and vines bore
many flowers.

gu�ar�ja kh�nna bole govinda-cara�

eka-citte-with one heart; �una-please hear; nara-O people; sa�s�ra-t�ra�-


rescuing from the material world; gu�ar�ja-Gunaraja; kh�nna-Khan; bole-describes;
govinda-cara�-Lord K���a's feet.

With one heart please hear, O people, Gu�ar�ja Kh�n's description of Lord
K���a's feet, a description that lifts us out of the world of birth and death.

marubaka, c�mp�, n�ge�war, a�il�, bakula-m�l�, jhi��i, ketak�, and ke�ara flowers
where many bumblebees play.

O Lord, You are untouched by matter. You are the destination of all. You are
Brahm�. You are �iva.

tum� indra baru�a tum� hut��a paban

tumi-You; candra-candra; tumi-You; s�rja-Surya; tumi-You; t�r�-g�n�the stars;


tum�-You; indra-Indra; baru�a-Varuna; tum�-You; hut��a-who eat from the fire;
paban-the purifier.
You are Candra. You are S�rya. You are the stars. You are Indra. You are

You are the protector of the ten directions. You are the cause of all. You are

spiritual knowledge.

You are japa. You are austerity. You are yaj�a. You are charity. You are yoga.
You are pleasure. You are spiritual knowledge.

s���i-sthiti-pralaya tum� se� n�r�ya�


tom�ra nidr�ya nidr� jagile j�gara�

s���i-creation; sthiti-maintenance; pralaya-and destruct�on; tum�-You; se�-He;


n�r�ya�-Narayana; tom�ra-of You; nidr�ya-from sleep; nidr�-sleep; jagile-wakes;
j�gara�-waking.

You are N�r�ya�a. You are the creator, maintainer, and destroyer of the
worlds. When You sleep, the worlds sleep. When You wake, the worlds wake.

nirgu�a nirlepa tum� kaile garbha-b�s


bhakta-batsala tum� karile prak��

nirgu�a-untouched by the modes of nature; nirlepa-untouched by matter; tumi-


You; kaile-do; garbha-b��-residence in the womb; bhakta-batsala�affectionate to the
devotees; tum�-You; karile-do; prak��-manifestation.

You are untouched by matter. You are untouched by the three modes. Because You
love Your devotees, You have now entered a mother's womb.

mohiy� ta ka�sa m�ra manu�a �ar�re


p�thiv�ra bh�ra hara m�riy� asure

mohiy� ta'-bewildering; ka�sa-Kamsa; m�ra-death; manu�a-human; �ar�re-with a


form; p�thiv�ra-of the earth; bh�ra-the burden; hara-removal; m�riy�-killing;
asure-the demons.

To kill Ka�sa and the demons, and the relieve the earth of her burden, You
have now appeared in a humanlike form.

eta bal� brahm�d� deba pra��ma kari


cal� gel� deba-ga�a j�ra je� pur�

eta-this; bali-saying; brahm�di-headed by Brahma; deba-the demiogds; pra��ma-


obeisances; kari-did; cali-went; gel�-went; deba-ga�a�the demigods; j�ra je� pur�-
to their city.

After speaking these words, Brahma� and the demigods bowed down to offer
respects. Then they returned to their cities.

You are Lord N�r�ya�a. You are the master of all. You are the creator,
maintainer, and destroyer of the material world.

ko�i-ko�i-brahm���era tum� adhik�r�


�mar� �akat� stut� k� karite p�ri

ko��-ko�i-millions and millions; brahm���era-of material worlds; tumi-You;


adhik�r�-the master; �mar�-of me; �akati�the power; stut�-prayers; k�-what; karite-
to do; p�ri-able.

You are the controller of millions and millions of universes. If you give me
the power, I will be able to speak eloquent prayers glorifying You.

y��h�ra pras�de �mr� dekhinu cakra-p��i

bh�la-good; haila-is; ��i-sage; more-of me; dila-gave; ��pa-b���the curse;


y��h�ra-of whom; pras�de-mercy; �mr�-of me; dekhinu-may see; cakra-p��i-the Lord
who holds the cakra.

The sage who cursed me gave me a great benediction, for it is by his mercy
that I now see the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the holder of the cakra.

tom�r n�ma baliye se� hauk b���


munira pras�de mora dekhinu cakra-p��i

tom��-of You; n�ma-the name; baliye-should speak; sei-this; hauk-should be;


b���-words; munira-of the sage; pras�de-by the mercy; mora-of me; dekhinu-may see;
cakra-p��i-the Lord who holds the cakra.

By the mercy of that sage, I now see the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the
holder of the cakra. O Lord, a person who has a voice should use that voice to
chant Your holy name.

se mastaka hauk je tom�re namask�re

sei-he; hasta-hands; hauk-may be; je-which; tom�ra-of You; karma�the work;


kare-do; se-he; mastaka-head; hauk-may be; je-who; tom�re-of You; namask�re-
offering obeisances.
He who has hands, should use his hands to work for You. He who has a head
should use his head to bow down before You.

se� cak�u hauk je tore nir�k�ay


se� mana hauk je tom�ke dhy�y

sei-he; cak�u-eyes; hauk-may be; je-who; tore-of You; nir�k�ay�seeing; se�-he;


mana-mind; hauk-may be; je-who; tom�ke-of You; dhy�y-meditation.

He who has eyes should gaze on You. He who has a mind should meditate on You.

se� jihw� hauk je tom�r pras�da kh�y

sei-he; p�da-feet; hauk-may be; je-who; tom�ra-of You; k�etra-to the holy
place; j�y-should go; sei-he; jihw�-a tonmgue; hauk�may be; je-who; tom��-of You;
pras�da-prasadam; kh�y-should taste.

He who has feet should walk to Your holy place. He who has a tongue should
taste the pras�dam offered to You.

etake karila stut� se� du� jan


h�siy� ta day� kar� kaila n�r�ya�

etake-they; karila-did; stuti-prayers; sei-these; dui-two; jan-persons; h�siy�


ta-smiling; day�-mercy; kar� kaila-did; n�r�ya�-Lord Narayana.

Thus these two persons offered prayers to the Lord. Lord N�r�ya�a smiled at
them and gave them His mercy.

tum� deba tum� nara pa�u-pak�i-ga�

tumi-You; deba-the Lord; nira�jana-untouched by matter; sab�ra-of all; kara�-


the cause; tumi-You; deba-demigod; tumi-You; nara�human being; pa�u-animals; pak��-
ga�-and birds.

You are the cause of everything, but You are nevr touched by matter. You
incarnate among the demigods, human beings, animals, and birds.

sakala s�jile tum� jagata-sa�s�re


tum� pr��a nile pr��a keba dite p�re

sakala-all; s�jile-create; tumi-You; jagata-sa�s�re-in the material world;


tum�-You; pr��a-life; nile-to remove; pr��a-life; keba dite-to give; p�re-able.

You have created all living beings in this world of birth and death. You have
the power to save or to kill.

tum� ta' s�jile more khala-r�pa kari

Even if a person performs austerities for millions of births, he cannot become

By the touch of Your feet his birth as a snake in this world became

Dressed in yellow garments and decorated with a string of pearls, He is like a
dark raincloud accompanied by lighting and a line of white birds.

His lotus toenails are like a series of jewels on the crowns worn by Brahma�
and the demigods.

On His left is Lak�m�-dev�, splendid like a golden campaka flower. On His

Rapt in meditation, Sanaka and the sages stay behind Him. Reciting many
prayers, with folded palms Garu�a stands before Him.

Many liberated associates gaze at the four-armed Lord's very glorious feet.

If I think of this form of the Lord I become rapt in meditation. In my heart I

Even though in these three worlds I am called by the name "the unborn one" and
by other respectful names, I am blind and foolish, for I could not recognize who
You really are.

Behind R�dh�'s beloved K���a is a great cint�ma�� jewel palace with four
gates.

The four gates had four gopa gatekeepers, each one charming and handsome like
Lord K���a Himself.

At the western gate the gatekeeper is �r�d�m�. At the eastern gate the
gatekeeper is Sud�m�. At the northern gate the gatekeeper is D�m�.

At the southern gate the gatekeeper is Ki�ki��ka. Within the gates is


V�nd�vana, where K���a enjoys many blissful pastimes.

l�khemillions and millions; subala-�di-beginn�ng with Subala; b�laka-boys; saba-
all; mandira-the placae; r�khe-protect.

Millions and millions of gopa boys assist Subala and the other gatekeepers in
protecting the cint�ma�� jewel palace.

k���era sam�na be�a j�ne n�n� kal�

n�n�-various; ala�k�ra-ornaments; �obhe-handsome; gale-on the neck; bana-m�l�-


forest garlands; k���era-of K���a; sam�na-equal; be�a-appearance; j�ne-know; n�n�-
various; kal�-arts.

Decorated with various ornaments, learned in various arts, and forest garlands
around their necks, these gopas look like Lord K���a Himself.

a�gera kira�a t��ra at� se ujor

keha-some; k�la-dark; keha-some; gaura-fair; sab�i-all; ki�o�-youthful;


a�gera-of limbs; kira�a-effulgence; t��ra-of him; at� se ujo�-very splendid.

Some are dark. Others are fair. All are in the prime of youth. All have limbs
that are splendid and glorious.

sakala goy�l� se� k���era sodar

m�th�ya-on the head; m�y�ra-pucch�-peacock feather; go�j�-gunja; manoha�-


charming; sakala-all; goy�l�-gopas; se�-that; k���era-of K���a; soda�-handsome.

Wearing gu�ja� necklaces and peacock-feather crowns, all the gopas are
charming and handsome like Lord K���a Himself.

k��khe �i�g� h�te be�u kare kare bet


ka�i-ta�e dha�� �obhe saba p��a �wet

k��khe-on the waist; �i�g�-buffalo-horn bugle; h�te-in the hand; be�u-flute;


kare kare-in the other hand; bet-stick; ka��-ta�e�on the hips; dha��-cloth; �obhe-
handsome; saba-all; p��a-cloth; �wet-white.

At each waist is a buffalo-horn bugle. In one hand is a flute and the other a
stick. A graceful white cloth decorates each waist.

su-swarete g�ta g�ya dhariy� se t�l

k���era-of K���a; �nande-bliss; �nanda-bliss; saba-all; goy�l�gopas; su-


swarete-with sweet sounds; g�ta-song; g�ya-sing; dhariy�-keeping; se-that;
t�l�rhythm.

When K���a is happy, all the gopas are happy. They clap their hands and sing
with sweet voices.

mandire be�iy� saba g�ya n�n�-g�ta

k���e�-of K���a; sebiy�-serving; saba-all; k���a-gata-citta�their hearts gone


to K���a; mandire-in the palace; be�iy�-surrounding; saba-all; g�ya-singing; n�n�-
g�ta-many songs.

They serve K���a. Their hearts are surrendered to K���a. Surrounding K���a in
that palace, they sing many songs.

candane sajjita a�ga gale bana-m�l�

se� mandira m�jjhe-in that palace; kr���-pastimes; kare-do; nanda-b�l�Nanda's


son; candane-sandal; sajjita-anointed; a�ga-limbs; gale-on the neck; bana-m�l�-a
forest garland.

His limbs anointed with sandal paste and a forest garland around His neck,
Nanda's son K���a enjoys many pastimes in that palace.

�irete-on His head; m�y�ra-pucche-a peacock feather; h�te-in Hishand; mohana-

sweet; h�si-smile.

On His head is a peacock feather. In His hand is a charming flute. On His


playful lips is a sweet smile.

Surrounded by the girls of Vraja, K���a is the crest jewel of playful lovers.
