The br�hma�as are now full with ornaments and cows. O king of Vraja, please at
once satisfy the singers like myself.

The hearts of those like me hanker for the treasure of the blissful sight of
your son. This treasure has not yet been granted to anyone who has appealed for it.

enchanted; nava-yuvati-of young girls; j�lam-the multitudes.

His forehead is splendidly decorated with gorocana tilaka drawn by the doe-
eyed girls of Vraja. The young gop�s are enchanted by the moonlight of His face and
overwhelmed with amorous longings created by His smile.

pra�ata-please bow down; bhaya-fear; ��tanam-destroying; priyam-dear; adh�-
san�tanam-eternal; go��ha-of Vraja; jana-of the people; m�nasa-in the M�nasa lake
of the hearts; mar�lam-a swan.

He is expert in joking. He is decorated with many flowers. He is charming. His


chest is broad. He destroys the fears of the surrendered devotees. He is the dear,
eternal swan that plays in the M�nasa lake that is the hearts of the Vrajav�s�s.

The gop� friends fall down to offer respectful obeisances. They swing Him with
great pleasure.

vilasati-splendidly manifested; dola-the swing; upari-above; vana-of forest


flowers; m�l�-wearing a garland; tarala-moving; saroruha-of a lotus flower; �irasi-
on the top; yath�-as; al�-a black bee.

Garlanded with forest flowers, Lord K���a splendidly plays on the swing, like
a black bee on a moving lotus flower.

janayati-reates; gop�-jana-of the gop�s; karat�l�-clapping of hands; k�pi-


someone; pura�-before; n�tyati-dances; pa�up�l�-gop�.

One gop� claps her hands and another gop� dances.

jayat� san�tana-rasa-parip�l�

ayam-He; �ra�yaka-of the forest; ma��ana-decorations; ��l�-wearing; jayati-all


glories; san�tana-eternal; rasa-the nectar of love; parip�l�-manifesting.

All glories to Lord K���a, who wears forest decorations, and who tastes the
nectar of eternal love.

Dhan��r�-r�ga

na kuru kad-arthanam atra sara�y�m


m�m avalokya sat�m a�ara�y�m

na-don't; kuru-do; kad-arthanam-suffering; atra-here; sara�y�m-on the path;


m�m-at me; avalokya-seeing; sat�m-a pious girl; a�ara�y�m-without shelter.

Please do not trouble Me here on the path. You see that I am a pious girl
without any shelter.
Note: �r�la J�va Gosv�m� explains that this song is sung by �r�mat� R�dh�r���
when, on Her way to perform the worship of the sun-god, She meets K���a on the
path.

karav��y adhun� bh�skara-y�gam

ca�cala-O libertine; mu�ca-let go; pa�a-of My garment; a�cala-of the edge;


bh�gam-part; karav��y-I shall do; adhun�-now; bh�skara-of the sun-god; y�gam-a
sacrifice.

Profligate K���a, let go of the border of My garment. I must go now to perform


a sacrifice for the sun-god.

na-don't; racaya-do; gokula-of Gokula; v�ra-O hero; vilambam-delay; vidadhe-I


do; vidhu-moon; mukha-face; vinati-obeisances; kadambam-a multitude.

O hero of Gokula, please do not delay Me. O moon-faced one, I bow down before
You again and again.

v�k�ya san�tana-deva bhavantam

rahas�-in a secluded place; bibhem�-I fear; vilola-moving; d�g-eyes; antam-


edge; v�k�ya-seeing; san�tana-eternal; deva-O Lord; bhavantam-You.

O eternal Lord, when I see You gazing at Me from the corners of Your roving
eyes in this solitary place, I become afraid.

R�dh�, tell me the cause of Your disease. Why is Your body so hot, as if a
terrible fire blazes within it?

Now You throw far away the beautiful, soft, and splendid silk bodice that
eclipses a host of red purandaragopa insects,

abhinandas�-You rejoice; na-not; h�-indeed; candraraja�-of camphor; bhara-

vikiras�-You cast away; vara-excellent; campaka-of campaka flowers; k�tam-made;
anupama-peerless; d�ma-garland; sac�lam-with the jewel in Your hair.

You no longer rejoice in betelnuts scented with ground camphor. You scatter
the peerless campaka garland and throw away the jewel in Your hair.

kalita-san�tana-kautukam ap� tava h�daya� sphurat� sa-��lam

bhajad-attaining; anavasthitam-unsteadiness; akhila-pade-in all places; sakhi-


O friend; sapadi-at once; vi�ambita-imitated; t�lam-cotton; kalita-understood;
san�tana-of the eternal Lord; kautukam-pastimes; api-also; tava-of You; h�dayam-the
heart; sphurati-manifested; sa-with; ��lam-a lance.

Friend, Your restless heart is light as a cotton swab. Pierced by a lance, it


yearns to enjoy with the eternal Supreme Personality of Godhead.

upar�-above; cucumba-kissed; sa-He; ra�g�-passionate; tena-by that; ha�h�d-
violently; aham-I; abhavam-became; vepathu-trembling; ma��ala-circle; sa�calad-
moving; a�g�-limbs.

Glancing at Me, passionate K���a kissed a bending new lotus flower. Because of
that hint My whole body is now violently trembling.

anubhav�n-because of the experience; mama-of Me; dharma-of piety; ujjvalam-
splendor; dhairya-of peacefulness; dhanam-the wealth; gatam-gone; astam-has become.

When He placed His hand on a pomegranate creeper bowed down with two round
fruits, the splendor of My piety and the wealth of My peacefulness fled far away.

tad aham avek�ya babh�va cira� bata vism�ta-k�yika-karm�

ada�ad-bit; a�oka-a�oka; lat�-vine; pallavam-blossom; ayam-He; atanu


abundant; san�tana-continual; narm�-joking words; tad-that; aham-I; avek�ya-seeing;
babh�va-became; ciram-for a long time; bata-indeed; vism�ta-forgotten; k�yika-of
the body; karm�-duties.

When I saw Him bite a red a�oka flower as He continually joked, I at once
forgot all My household duties.

anadhigata-not attained; akasmika-without a cause; gada-disease; kara�am-


cause; arpita-placed; mantra-au�adhi-mantra medicines; nikurambam-abundance;
avirata-without stopping; rudita-crying; vilohita-reddened; locanam-eyes;
anu�ocat�-laments; t�m-Her; akhila-entire; ku�umbam-family.

All Her family, the actual cause of the disease, administers mantra medicines
and constantly cries with reddened eyes,

O Lord Hari, please be merciful. Her heart wounded by the sharp arrows of Your
sidelong glance, my friend is barely alive.

h�di-on the breast; valad-moving; avirala-always; sa�jvara-distress; pa�al�-


abundance; sphutad-manifested; ujjvala-splendid; mauktika-pearl; samud�y�-
abundance; ��tala-cooling; bh�tala-on the ground; ni�cala-unmoving; tanu�-body;
iyam-She; avas�dati-fainting; samprati-now; nirup�y�-helpless.

The splendid pearls on Her breast move to and fro in the fever of Her anxiety.
She has fainted and Her motionless body now lies helpless on the cold floor.

go��ha-of Vraja; jana-of the people; abhaya-fearlessness; sattra-sacrifice;


mah�-great; vrata-vow; d�k�ita-initiated; bhavata�-from the cause; m�dhava-O
M�dhava; b�l�-this girl; katham-why?
arhat�-deserves; t�m-Her; hanta-indeed; san�tana-eternal; vi�ama-distress; da��m-
condition; gu�a-of good qualities; v�nda-abundance; vi��l�-great.

O M�dhava, O Lord initiated with a great vow to perform the sacrifice for
removing the fears of the Vrajav�s�s, O eternal Lord, why should this virtuous girl
suffer so much?

danta-rocir antarayat� santamasam analpam

hanta-indeed; na-not; kim-why?; u-indeed; mantharayas�-You stop; santatam-


continual; abhijalpam-talking; danta-of Your teeth; roci�-the splendor; antarayat�-
intervenes; santamasam
darkness; analpam-great.

Why do You not stop this continual talking. The splendor of Your teeth dispels
the great darkness of this talk.

Note: �r�la J�va Gosv�m� explains that after R�dh�r���'s messenger had
presented her plaint, Lord K���a replied: "O messenger, why do you speak in this
contrary way? I always think of R�dh�. Indeed, I remain alive only by meditating on
Her." Filled with ecstatic love for K���a, the gop� messenger returned to R�dha� on
the path and sang this song to Her.

j�vatu-may live; nakha-of nails; k�ntibhi�-by the splendor; abhi��ntam-dispelled.

With the splendor of Your fingernails dispel the darkness of Your cloud-black
hair.

Your heart is now fixed on the eternal Supreme Personality of Godhead and Your
doubts and fears are gone. Now please go to the middle of this charming forest
grove.

sicayam-the garment; uda�caya-please lift; h�day�d-from Your breasts; alpam-a


little; vilikh�my-I shall draw; adbhuta-wonderful; makara-of makara fishes;
�kalpam-decoration.

Lift the cloth a little from Your breasts and I will draw wonderful pictures
of makara fishes there.

When Indra frightened him, P�rvat�'s elder brother, Mount Main�ka, remembering
the strength of family ties, hurriedly took shelter of the ocean. Powerful
Govardhana Hill, however, was able to easily remove Indra's stubborn pride. I pray
Govardhana Hill may always delight us all.

The toll-station on Govardhana Hill is dark with the soplendor of many black
bees. The all-powerful king who guards that toll-station did not take any butter

souls, such as N�rada and �ukadeva. O Har�-n�ma! I take complete shelter of You.*

O sun of the Holy Name, even the dim light of Your early dawn gives the sight
of pure devotion to they who are blind to the truth. What learned person in this

The Vedas declare that although meditation on impersonal Brahman cannot bring

(King of V�nd�vana), Pra�atakaru�a (Merciful to the surrendered souls), and K���a,

before; param -great; eva -indeed; hanta -indeed; karu�am� -compassion; tatra-
there; ap� -even; j�n�mahe-we know; yas -one who; tasmin -ion that; vihit�par�dha-
committed an offense; nivaha� -multitude; pr��� -living entity; samant�d
-completely; bhaved-may be; �syena-with the mouth; idam -this; up�sya -worshiping;
so -He; ap� -even; h� indeed; sad�nand�mbudhau -in the ocean of bliss; majjati-
plunges.

O Holy Name, You are manifest in two forms: 1. the Supreme Person described by
the Holy Name, and 2. the sound vibration of the Holy Name. We know that the second
form is more merciful than the first. Even a person who commits many offenses to
the first form, may become always plunged into an ocean of bliss by serving the
second with his voice.

festival; te-of You; k���a -of Lord K���a; p�r�a-the perfect and full; vapu�e
-transcendental form; namo -obeisances; nama�-obeisances.

O name that destroys the many sufferings of they who take shelter of You, O
name that is the form of delightful and intense spiritual bliss, O name that is a
festival of happiness for Gokula, O perfect and complete Holy Name of Lord K���a, I
