Introduction
Abstract
ONLINE FOOD ORDER SYSTEM is a website designed primarily for use in the food delivery industry. This
system will allow hotels and restaurants to increase scope of business by reducing the labor cost involved. The
system also allows to quickly and easily manage an online menu which customers can browse and use to place
orders with just few clicks. Restaurant employees then use these orders through an easy to navigate graphical
interface for efficient processing.
1.1 Introduction:
It is known globally that, in today’s market, it is extremely difficult to start a new small-scale business and live-
through the competition from the well-established and settled owners. In fast paced time of today, when
everyone is squeezed for time, the majority of people are finicky when it comes to placing a food order. The
customers of today are not only attracted because placing an order online is very convenient but also because
they have visibility into the items offered, price and extremely simplified navigation for the order. Online
ordering system that I am proposing here, greatly simplifies the ordering process for both the customer and the
restaurant. System presents an interactive and up-to-date menu with all available options in an easy to use
manner. Customer can choose one or more items to place an order which will land in the Cart. Customer can
view all the order details in the cart before checking out. At the end, customer gets order confirmation details.
Once the order is placed it is entered in the database and retrieved in pretty much real time. This allows
Restaurant Employees to quickly go through the orders as they are received and process all orders efficiently
and effectively with minimal delays and confusion.

1.2 Problem identification:


Online ordering, a wonderful way for restaurants to increase their sales and provide better customer support and
engagement, has come a long way since 1999, when a study found that 20 percent of households who placed
online orders experienced problems. Nearly half said their orders didn’t arrive, but many were billed anyway.
Others were unable to contact the customer service department.

While these don’t continue to be common problems, there are others that many restaurants see when
implementing an online ordering system. Learn the most common barriers to success and see your online
ordering take off.
 Confusing Menu

When hungry customers want to order online, they don’t want to spend their time navigating a complicated
menu that doesn’t allow them to easily modify or add to their food selection. For example, online pizza ordering
sites should have separate sections for the crust and all of its options, like seasoning, thick or thin, stuffed, a
section for the sauce, a section for the cheese, and a section for all of the other toppings.

If customers try to order online and find that the menu is confusing or complicated, they will more than likely
click away from the site and abandon their cart, if they were able to put anything inside. If you find in your
analytics that there is a larger number of people visiting your online ordering page and the numbers exceed the
numbers of people who are, in fact, ordering online, checking your online ordering process might point toward a
complicated menu and ordering system. ‘

Troubleshooting Tip: Go through your online ordering process yourself, and as a few others who are unbiased
to do the same. If anyone experiences any difficulties, consider re-designing your ordering layout.

 Timeliness

Once an order has been placed online, it needs to pass through several landing spots. The order needs to get to
the restaurant, into the kitchen, and into the point-of-sale program. Once that’s been done, the food needs to be
made and then prepared for delivery, which includes bagging the food, including any utensils or condiments,
and checking to make sure all of the components have been placed in the bag. The employee responsible for
deliveries usually has several deliveries at once, so all of the bags and orders need to be placed in warming bags
to keep hot foods hot, and then delivered to the customer who ordered.

If a hungry customer finds that the wait time is longer than expected or predicted, there is less of a chance of
returning to purchase again, and a greater probability that the customer will call to locate the order. If you’re
receiving these calls, you might find that there is a gap in the system that is causing a glitch or hang-up in the
order processing system.

Troubleshooting Tip: Observe each part of the online ordering system, from start to finish, to audit the various
steps involved. Consider adding a ticker that tracks the process and allows customers to see the status of their
order.
 Server Capabilities

It’s vital for restaurants taking online orders to ensure they have the infrastructure in place to handle large
volumes of online orders. A high-profile marketing campaign, as well as increased exposure, can lead to a large
number of online orders being placed, which can tax a system not designed to handle such capacity. As a result,
customers will be left with re-direct pages, timed-out messages, and blank web pages, and you’ll probably be
getting phone calls that hint of frustration while trying to order.

There are many great reasons to offer online ordering but to have an effective system, it’s imperative that the
system flows well and provides customers with prompt, accurate service and orders.

1.3 Importance:
Online ordering system, one of the trending technologies in the present food industry will certainly build an
online presence for your restaurant or an existing food business.

Online food ordering system, one of the latest trends in the food industry makes customers to enjoy their favorite
restaurant food at their convenience, without going to anywhere. This is quite beneficial for those people who
don’t have enough time to go out for food, especially during hectic office hours.

users frequently. This makes the customers to enjoy their delicious dishes at a discounted price.

The next day as you open the back end of the food ordering system, all these list of orders will be displayed to
you with the respective delivery or takeaway timings. By simply reviewing and accepting these orders, you can
start processing them.

Food ordering system provides you the flexibility and the easiness to update the online menu at any time without
any complications. It completely avoids the printing of menu cards again and again with the updated price and
pictures.

Whenever you prepare some special food or mouthwatering dishes in your restaurant, you can simply update the
online menu within a few steps.

Enhanced productivity

By avoiding the phone ordering, online ordering system makes the food ordering process entirely automated. This
mainly saves a lot of time to the restaurant employees and increases the productivity of the restaurant by avoiding
unnecessary phone calls.

It even helps you to send personalized emails to your customers on their special occasions like birthdays, marriage
days etc.
1.4 Solution Purposed:
We recently posted an article about how our smart phones are replacing other devices in our lives such as
cameras, computers, iPods, etc. They are changing the way we do everything, including the way we order food.
In an age of being able to text instead of call, restaurants have learned to adopt this strategy of communication
with online ordering systems.
Now, you can order your take-out or delivery with just a few simple clicks through online ordering systems and
applications such as Grub Hub, Seamless, and more. Some larger franchises, like Domino’s, have even created
their own online ordering applications. This new way of ordering is growing rapidly among the younger
generations. According to QSRweb, 52% of U.S. Internet users would likely use a smartphone or tablet for
ordering take-out and delivery if possible, with 74% of millennials expressing interest in doing so. It’s needless
to say that if you own or operate a restaurant that offers take-out or delivery, you should consider an online
ordering system. Here’s why:
1. Higher Employee Productivity:
Think about all the time your employees spend taking orders over the phone and making sure that the order is
correct. When taking orders over the phone, there is a higher likelihood of miscommunication, in turn,

4. Ability to Build a Database:
When your customers order through an online ordering service, this creates an opportunity for you to capture
information, such as an email address, and use this information to create a database. This database can then be

2.1 Theories:

Spice Theory is a bootstrapped start up that provides Digital Food Delivery Systems to restaurants. We are
revolutionizing the way people order their favorite food from their favorite restaurants. Utilizing the latest
mobile and web technologies, we are building the most advanced platform for ordering food through the
internet-connected world. By digitizing restaurants’ content, we are enabling them to establish a foothold in the
rapidly expanding online ordering market.

3 We believe the time for restaurants to join the internet boom has come. This is why we are confident of strong
growth of Spice Theory, but as with all success stories, it will take some time, and much effort, to get there.

4 Your Role as a Sales Officer You will be required to approach restaurant owners in your city and explain to
them the benefits of using technology. Specifically you will be required to physically give them a demonstration
of Spice Theory’s integrated online ordering system and convince them to launch their own websites with Spice
Theory. You are required to possess strong communication skills and will have to clearly demonstrate the
advantages of Spice Theory’s cutting edge online ordering system.

5 Your Role as a Sales Officer This job requires dedication, a strong will, and skill in meeting with people. And
it will also require travelling. Moreover, Spice Theory expects you to have a laptop, a smartphone, and an
internet connection - (by either using a dongle, a smartphone with hotspot, or some other means) - using which
you will give the demonstration.

6 Compensation to You For your efforts, Spice Theory will compensate you in a more than handsome way. For
each sale that you generate, you will earn 25% of the total value of the sale. For example, if you can convince 5
restaurants to use Spice Theory's online ordering system, and you decide to charge each restaurant Rs. 20,000
then you will get Rs. 25,000 (25% of 100,000). Bear in mind that the price quoted to restaurants will be decided
entirely by you, with Spice Theory only setting a minimum price to be charged.

7 Learnings Money aside, you will get to learn a lot in this job. You will have the opportunity to meet a variety
of people from internal stakeholders, clients/suppliers to restaurant owners. Each day you will talk to someone
new, from a different walk of life that will teach you something interesting you didn’t already know. Moreover,

and manage your own time. One of the best parts of this job is that you get to define it – A day can involve
researching new clients, meeting with clients, nurturing relationships with existing clients or strategising sales

2.2 Previous Study:

The theory of reasoned action (TRA) (Ajzen and Fishbein, 1980) and the theory of planned behavior (TPB)
(Ajzen, 1985) were born out of examining the relationship between attitude and behavior towards a new
introduced action. Technology acceptance model (TAM) is based on these theories and tries to explain and

TAM puts forward the perceived ease of use and perceived usefullness as two main factors while trying to
explain the attitude directly and behavioural intention indirectly towards using a technology. Davis describes p
as "the degree to which a person (1989). Both of these factors were examined as the main determinants of
attitudes of potential users towards several kinds of actions as web retailing (O'Cass, 2003; Ahn, 2007), online
tax filing (Wang, 2003; Fu, 2006),

Digital libraries (Thong, 2002) and e-learning (Liu, 2003; Roca, 2006). Being inspired by these researches, the
first two hypothesis of our research are: H1: The attitudes of students towards online food ordering vary
according to the ease of online food ordering process. H2: The attitudes of students towards online food
ordering vary according to the usefulness online food ordering process. Rogers (2003) defines innovation in his
book as 'an idea, practice, or object that is perceived as new by an individual or other unit of adoption' (p. 551).
As there were many definitions of the related term 'innovativeness', Personal Innovativeness in the Domain of
Information Technology (PIIT) (Agarwal et al. 1998) can be seen as the ustomers towards online purchases
(Lian et al. 2008). As being inspired by similar researches (Lu et al. 2005; Wang et al. 2006), it is hypothesized
that in line with innovativeness, the customers' attitude to order food from internet will vary. H3: The attitudes
of students towards online food ordering vary according to their innovativeness against information technology.

2.3 indigos Studies:


Information technology. after having taken the business over the internet has a noteworthy effect on consumers
against online purchasing (Gefen and Straub, 2003). According to these definitions, trust forms the basis of
consumers' beliefs about the safety of online shopping. Concisely, in this study we mention consumers' trust to
customer service quality and reliability of online retailer business. Besides it is referred that trust is one of the key
factors that influence customers' attitude towards online shopping. As such it is hypothesized that: H4: The
attitudes of students towards online food ordering vary according to their trust in e-retailers.

2.4 Objectives:
The general objectives of the study is to develop a reliable, convenient and accurate Ordering System.
The study has the following specific objectives:

 To develop a system that will surely satisfied the customer service

 To design a system able to accommodate huge amount of orders at a time.

 To evaluate its performance and acceptability in terms of security, user-friendliness, accuracy and
reliability.

 To improve the communication between the client and the server and minimize the time of
ordering.
One of the main objectives of a restaurant to ensure customer satisfaction. Manual listing of orders
by the waiters/waitresses may result to slow response in customer service. Hence, if the restaurant uses
the proposed system, manipulation of orders to the customers be so easy and quick by just touching on
the tablet and choosing the desired menu.

 To automatically compute the bill.


The system will also automatically calculate and displays the final bill so the bills will ready to
print without having any error because the information for that item is already inserted.
Chapter 3
Materials and Methods

The study’s methods are one of the most important parts used to judge the overall quality of the paper. In
addition the Methods section should give readers enough information so that they can repeat the experiments.
Reviewers should look for potential sources of bias in the way the study was designed and carried out, and for
places where more explanation is needed.

The specific types of information in a Methods section will vary from field to field and from study to study.
However, some general rules for Methods sections are:

 It should be clear from the Methods section how all of the data in the Results section were obtained.
 The study system should be clearly described. In medicine, for example, researchers need to specify the number
of study subjects; how, when, and where the subjects were recruited, and that the study obtained appropriate
‘informed consent’ documents; and what criteria subjects had to meet to be included in the study.
 In most cases, the experiments should include appropriate controls or comparators. The conditions of the
controls should be specified.
 The outcomes of the study should be defined, and the outcome measures should be objectively validated.
 The methods used to analyze the data must be statistically sound.
 For qualitative studies, an established qualitative research method (e.g. grounded theory is often used in
sociology) must be used as appropriate for the study question.
 If the authors used a technique from a published study, they should include a citation and a summary of the
procedure in the text. The method also needs to be appropriate to the present experiment.
 All materials and instruments should be identified, including the supplier’s name and location. For example,
“Tests were conducted with a Vulcanizer 2.0 (XYZ Instruments, Mumbai, India).”
 The Methods section should not have information that belongs in another section (such as the Introduction or
Results).
You may suggest if additional experiments would greatly improve the quality of the manuscript. Your
suggestions should be in line with the study’s aims. Remember that almost any study could be strengthened by
further experiments, so only suggest further work if you believe that the manuscript is not publishable without
it.
