1. What is the problem? Or what is the situation to improve?

Cars are lethal even while standing still. Vehicular heat stroke and motor vehicle
carbon monoxide (MVCO) are the reason. 701 deaths were caused due to vehicular
heatstroke in the US alone(which year?).. More than half of the deaths are children
under 2 years of age. Whereas, motor vehicle carbon monoxide(MVCO) poisoning
resulted in 200 deaths in the UK in the year 2000, 534 in Australia, 276 in Canada
and thousands more around the world. In addition to deaths from MVCO, there are
43000 non-fatal MVCO poisonings in the US alone(which year?). Vehicular heat
stroke and MVCO are without a doubt a dreadful problem that can be solved
completely. These 2 problems continue to persist mainly due to human negligence.

Vehicular heat stroke occurs when the occupant is trapped in the car when the
temperature inside the car is too high resulting in hyperthermia of greater than
40.6°C. The victims are generally helpless children left to their gruesome fate. A
child’s body temperature rises 3-5 times faster than adults making them more
susceptible to hyperthermia. Vehicular heat strokes can be prevented by swift action.
The CoSense, alerts the owner of the car well before the temperature reaches a
dangerous level, around 30°C. The owner can then take the appropriate actions to
save the child. If no action has been taken, the CoSense automatically reacts. The
CoSense completely removes human negligence from the equation.

MVCO poisoning have been an ongoing problem for years. Carbon monoxide is an
odourless and tasteless gas that is highly toxic. Victims are not aware that they are
exposed to high levels of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide poisoning from
vehicles are mainly due to operating a vehicle with defective exhaust systems, weak
air-conditioning and even operating vehicles in closed spaces. The carbon monoxide
accumulation in the car goes unnoticed until it reaches a dangerous level which in
most cases are too late. Most death occurs when the victim falls asleep in the car
and fails to react in time. High levels of carbon monoxide can also greatly impair
driving ability as well. In addition, MVCO poisoning is also used as means of
committing suicide. Victims who survive such an attempt are most often left with
permanently impaired eye and brain functions. With the use of Cosense, death by
carbon monoxide poisoning will be a thing of the past. The CoSense alerts the
occupant by an alarm if the carbon monoxide reaches a dangerous level. The
vehicle’s engine is also switched off automatically to stop the supply of carbon
monoxide and the windows are wound down; all these actions help mitigate the risk
of death and permanent disability from carbon monoxide poisoning.
