4 Configuration Guide
This topic describe how to configure the L3 data service of the HG850a through the N2000 BMS
and the Web page.
Optical network termination management and control interface (OMCI) is the ONT management
and control interface protocol defined in ITU-T G.984.4. OMCI defines the format and the
mechanism of the interactive messages between the OLT and the ONT. OMCI analyzes the
service model of the ONT and defines a series of management entities used for the service
description.
OMCI defines the packet format of the message interaction between the OLT and the ONT and
the mechanism of confirmation and retransmission. In this way, the OMCI provides a logical
channel for communication. After adopting the OMCI protocol, the OLT supports the
management and configuration of various ONTs, the offline configuration of the ONT, and the
configuration recovery of the online ONT. Based on this mechanism, the ONT does not need to
save the configuration information locally. This helps to provision services and maintain the
terminal.
Context
The process of setting up the OMCI channel between the OLT and the ONT is performed
automatically and no manual operation is required.
Procedure
Step 1 After being powered on, the ONT interacts with the OLT through the physical layer OAM
(PLOAM) message to complete the registration.
Step 2 From the received PLOAM message, the OLT knows whether the ONT supports the OMCI
protocol. If the ONT supports the OMCI protocol, the OMCI channel between the OLT and the
ONT can be set up.
Step 3 After the OMCI channel is set up between the OLT and the ONT, the OLT transmits the
configuration and management information about the ONT to the ONT through the OMCI
channel, and the ONT uploads its status and alarm information to the OLT through the OMCI
channel.
NOTE
l The PLOAM protocol is defined in the ITU-T G.984.3 and is used for the operation, maintenance, and
management of the physical layer.
l OMCI is a master-slave management protocol. The OLT is the master device; the ONT is the slave
device. The OLT controls multiple ONTs through the OMCI channel.

Prerequisite
l The DHCP server must support the DHCP option 66/67 function.
l The FTP server must support anonymous login.
Context
The XML configuration file is delivered through DHCP option 66/67 in the following two
scenarios:
l Original service provisioning
When the ONT goes online, the ONT VLAN ID is configured in the OLT IP host mode.
After receiving the configuration message, the ONT sends the DHCP request automatically.
By receiving this request, the DHCP server responds with a message carrying the option
66/67 field. This field carriers the IP address of the FTP server. Then, after parsing this
field, the ONT sends a request to the FTP server for downloading configurations. When
the downloading process is complete, the configurations take effect after the device is
restarted.
l Configuration service update
If services of the ONT are normal and the WAN interface obtains the IP address in the
DHCP mode, when the configuration file corresponding to the ONT on the FTP server is
modified, the ONT automatically finds the modification of the configuration file and
updates the service configurations after the DHCP server lease time expires or the ONT is
restarted. Then, these configurations take effect after the device is restarted.
A matched XML configuration file is released with the HG850a version. The naming rule of
this XML configuration file is XXXX_default_cfg_bms.xml, where, XXXX indicates the
version ID. When the XML configuration file is delivered through DHCP option 66/67, modify
the correct XML configuration file. For details about parameters of the XML configuration file,
see Parameters of the XML Configuration File.xls (packed and released with the EchoLife
HG850a GPON Terminal Service Manual (V100R001)).
Procedure
Step 1 Enable the DHCP server and the FTP server. Ensure that the DHCP server and the ONT, and
that the FTP server and the ONT can communicate with each other.
Step 2 Enable the option 66/67 of the DHCP server and set option 66/67 to the name of the FTP server.
Currently, only the name of the IP address format is supported and the domain name is not
supported. For example, set the name of the FTP server to 202.1.8.253.
Step 3 In the case of the original service provisioning, in the OLT GPON mode, run the ont port native-
vlan command to configure the IP host VLAN.
Assume that port 0/3/0 is used. To specify the IP host VLAN of ONT 0 to 100, do as follows:
MA5600T(config-if-gpon-0/3)#ont port native-vlan 0 0 iphost vlan 100
Step 4 Modify the XML configuration file. Ensure that this file contains a WAN interface that can
connect to the DHCP server. Save the modified XML configuration file in the shared root
directory of the FTP server. For example, if the shared root directory of the FTP server is
192.168.1.1/ont_config, the XML configuration file must be saved to folder ont_config. This
file is named in the rule of br0 MAC address.xml. The method of querying the br0 MAC address
is as follows:
Log in to the HG850a CLI through telnet and then enter the following commands for query:
Login:root
Password:admin----------Not displayed on the CLI.
HG850a>enable
HG850a#configure terminal
HG850a(config)#shell
#
# ifconfig
Step 5 After successful configurations, when the DHCP server lease time expires or the ONT is
restarted, the ONT automatically downloads the XML configuration file from the FTP server
and updates the service configurations.
Step 6 The configuration data takes effect after the ONT is restarted.
CAUTION
l A WAN interface that can connect to the DHCP server must be configured in the ONT
configuration file saved on the FTP server. Otherwise, the subsequent update continuity
cannot be ensured.
l In original service provisioning, the VLAN configured in the IP host mode must be the same
as the VLAN of the default WAN interface.

enable or disable Select enable. When disable is selected, the WAN port cannot work
WAN in the normal state.
WAN VLAN ID Indicates the VLAN corresponding to the WAN port. The VLAN is
used to differentiate WAN ports, that is, different WAN ports cannot
be configured with the same VLAN.
WAN Pbit value Pbit indicates the corresponding priority. The packet is sent carrying
the configured priority. Therefore, the priority can be used to
differentiate different services on the WAN (for example, generally,
the priority of the VoIP service is higher than the priority of the
Internet service), thus effectively implementing the QoS. In the case
of VLAN+PRI mapping, ensure that the PRI is consistent with the
PRI configured in the mapping.
Parameter Remarks
WAN Service Type Seven types are available: INTERNET, VoIP, TR069, VoIP-
INTERNET, TR069-INTERNET, TR069-VoIP, and TR060-VoIP-
INTERNET. Different WAN ports carry their corresponding types
of services. INTERNET WAN port is used for the Internet access
service, VoIP WAN port is used for the voice service, and TR069
series are used for the remote centralized management for the family
gateway from the network side. Currently, the HG850a does not
support TR069. These options are reserved for future extension.
Therefore, do not use them.
Bind Port Only the WAN port of the INTERNET type needs to be bound to the
LAN port, indicating that the Internet access service of the LAN port
is carried on the corresponding WAN port. Note that only a L3 LAN
port can be bound and one LAN port can be bound to only one WAN
port. In addition, a newly added WAN port inherits the original WAN
port configuration. As a result, a VoIP WAN port may be bound to a
LAN port or one LAN port may be bound to multiple WAN ports.
Therefore, modify the LAN port set first. The calculation method of
the LAN port set is similar to that of the LAN type, which is converted
into a decimal number by using the corresponding subnet mask.
Enable or disable When it is enabled, you can convert between the IP address and the
NAT port. Generally, NAT should be enabled for an INTERNET WAN,
and it can be enabled or disabled for a VoIP WAN port.
NATType Indicates two NAT types. Different types do not affect the service
function:
l NAPT is a port-restricted cone NAT, which is a comparatively
safe NAT.
l Cone NAT is a full cone NAT, which is also called promiscuous
NAT.
Whether WAN port When a packet cannot find an egress from the routing table, it selects
used as default route the default route. Select only one WAN port as the default route.
Parameter Remarks
The UPnP allows the peer-to-peer (P2P) connection, internetworking, and wireless connection
between PCs. It can be enabled or disabled.
Security refers to whether the FTP, HTTP, TELNET, and SSH services are enabled on the WAN
side and LAN side. In consideration of security, only the HTTP and TELNET services are
enabled on the LAN side. Generally, use the default settings.
Step 8 Enter the GPON ONU interface on the NMS, and press Ctrl or Shift to select multiple ONTs.
Then, right-click and choose Bind VAS Profile.
NOTE
Skip this step when configuring the value-added service of a single ONT.
Step 9 In the dialog box that is displayed, select the configuration profile for configuring the value-
added service of the ONTs, and click OK.
Step 10 On the GPON ONU interface on the N2000 BMS, right-click, and choose Configure Value-
Added Service to perform customized configuration.
----End
Context
The following configurations are applicable to only the H.248/SIP protocol rather than the
MGCP protocol. The following describes the procedure for configuring the value-added service
of the H.248 protocol for ONTs in batches.
NOTE
l To configure customized value-added service for a single ONT, right-click on the GPON ONU interface
on the NMS, and choose Configure Value-Added Service to configure the service. For details, see
Configuring the ONT Value-added Service in the OLT NE management manual.
l The configuration procedure in the case of the SIP protocol is similar to the configuration procedure
in the case of the H.248 protocol and will not be described here. For details on the parameter meanings,
see Configuring the VAS for an GPON ONU in the OLT NE management manual.
Procedure
Step 1 Choose Profile > ONT VAS Profile from the main menu.
Step 2 Select a profile that has been configured with L3 data service, right-click, and choose Modify
Global Profile.
Step 3 Configure the country code and signaling protocol type.
Select the country code according to the actual condition, and select H.248 as Signal
Protocol. Figure 4-34 shows the configuration of the country code and signaling protocol type.
Figure 4-34 Configuring the country code and signaling protocol type
Currently, the HG850a supports only one MG. Therefore, the basic configuration of only the first MG is
required.
1. On the navigation tree in the left pane, select H.248 protocol basic configure. Right-click,
and choose Add from the short-cut menu. Figure 4-36 shows the configuration of the H.
248 protocol.
If there is no signaling exchanged between the MGC and the MG within the preset heartbeat
duration, the MG sends heartbeat signaling to the MGC. The value range of the heartbeat
duration of the MG is 5 through 655.
5. Configure the message format.
The message sent from the MG is in either of the following two formats: short or long. In
the short format, the abbreviations of the event name and attribute name of the sent message
are used. In the long format, the full spelling of the event name and attribute name of the
sent message are used.
6. Configure the newest version supported by the MG
The MG uses the number of the newest version to register with the MGC (the number of
the version ranges can be 0, 1, 2 or 3). Then the MGC responds the MG with its own
supported versions and the MG negotiates the version according to the version responded
by the MGC.
7. Configure the identity of the message sent by the MG.
The identity of the message sent by the MG can be IP address, domain name, or device
name. For details, see the following:
l When IP Address is set as the identity of the message sent by the MG, the domain name
of the MG NMS need not be specified, that is, the domain name can be any value.
l When Domain Name is set as the identity of the message sent by the MG, the identify
is the MG domain name configured in Step 5.2.
l When Device Name is set as the identity of the message sent by the MG, the MG uses
the configured device name to send messages. Currently, this function is not supported.
8. Configure authentication.
The following two conditions are available:
l When enable is selected, Authentication initial key and Authentication gateway id
are Authentication initial key and Authentication gateway id configured during the
MG configuration on the MGC.
l When disable is selected, Authentication initial key and Authentication gateway
id need not be specified.
9. Configure the initial key.
The initial key is used for the MG authentication. It is a string consisting of 0 through 16
characters.
10. Configure the MG authentication ID.
The authentication ID is used for the MG authentication. It is a string consisting of 0 through
16 characters.
Step 6 Configure the H.248 global digitmap.
1. Configure the digitmap name in the Name of Digitmap text box (the default name is
recommended). The digitmap name is a string consisting of 1 through 16 characters.
2. Configure the digitmap body (namely, the local digitmap) in the Digitmap text box. The
digitmap body is a string consisting of 0 through 8000 characters.
Figure 4-37 shows the configuration of the H.248 global digitmap.
On the navigation tree in the left pane, select H.248 User, right-click on the selected item, and
choose Add from the short-cut menu.
TIP
The HG850a supports two H.248 users. Therefore, two H.248 users can be configured.
Step 9 Enter the GPON ONU interface on the NMS, and press Ctrl or Shift to select multiple ONTs.
Then, right-click and choose Bind VAS Profile.
NOTE
Skip this step when configuring the value-added service of a single ONT.
Step 10 In the dialog box that is displayed, select the configuration profile for configuring the value-
added service of the ONTs, and click OK.
Step 11 On the GPON ONU interface on the N2000 BMS, right-click, and choose Configure Value-
Added Service to perform customized configuration. For example, configure User phone
number.
----End
Context
User-defined ONT parameters refer to the parameters that cannot be configured through the
N2000 BMS but may be modified by users. For details on the user-defined ONT parameters,
see List and Description of the Customized H248 XML NMS Configuration Parameters for
Transparent Transmission or List and Description of the Customized SIP XML NMS
Configuration Parameters for Transparent Transmission (packed and released with the
EchoLife HG850a GPON Terminal Service Manual (V100R001)).
Through the transparent transmission by the N2000 BMS, these parameters can be configured
more flexibly by the user for the ONT.
With the release of the HG850a, an xml configuration file of the corresponding version is also
released. The configuration file contains not only all the parameters that can be configured
through the N2000 BMS but also all the user-defined parameters supported by the version. The
naming rule of the xml configuration file is XXXX_default_cfg_bms.xml (XXXX indicates the
version number). The items in the Voice node of the xml configuration file are the parameters
that can be configured through the N2000 BMS, and the items in the VspVoice node are the
user-defined ONT parameters. The VspVoice node consists of two sub-nodes: VoiceService and
GCPVoiceService. The VoiceService sub-node contains the SIP user-defined parameters, and
the GCPVoiceService contains the H.248 and MGCP user-defined parameters.
NOTE
The VspVoice node also contains the voice parameters that can be configured through the N2000 BMS.
Modifying these parameters in the configuration file is invalid. You need to modify these parameters directly
on the N2000 BMS. For example, the ProxyServer attribute in the SIP node corresponding to the address of the
SIP registration server needs to be directly modified on the N2000 BMS.
Transmitting the parameters transparently through the N2000 BMS applies to the following two
scenarios:
l Modifying the user-defined parameters of a single ONT
l Modifying in batches the user-defined parameters of multiple ONTs
Before modifying the parameters, check whether the version of the N2000 BMS matches the
version of the HG850a to be deployed. If the version of the N2000 BMS is correct, directly use
the xml configuration file of the corresponding version. If the version of the N2000 BMS is
incorrect, create the xml configuration file manually. For details on the operation, see Creating
the xml Configuration File Manually.
Procedure
l Modify the xml configuration file.
Open the xml configuration file, and modify the user-defined ONT parameters (the
configuration items in the VspVoice node). Then, save the configuration. For details on the
user-defined ONT parameters, see List and Description of the Customized H248 XML
NMS Configuration Parameters for Transparent Transmission.xls or List and Description
of the Customized SIP XML NMS Configuration Parameters for Transparent
Transmission.xls.
l Import the xml configuration file.
1. Select the target ONT from the ONT list, right-click, and choose Configure Value-
Added Service.
2. Import the xml configuration file that has been modified and saved.
l Configure the parameters that can be configured through the N2000 BMS.
1. Configure and issue the service data according to 4.7.1 Configuring the L3 Data
Service and 4.7.2 Configuring the Voice Service of the H.248/SIP Protocol.
2. After modifying the parameters that can be configured through the N2000 BMS, click
OK to issue the configuration to the ONT through the N2000 BMS.
NOTE
After the configuration is issued through the N2000 BMS successfully, the ONT automatically
resets. After this, the N2000 BMS-configured parameters and the user-defined ONT parameters
take effect.
----End
Procedure
l Add a value-added service profile for issuing the configuration in batches.
1. Open the xml configuration file, and modify the user-defined ONT parameters, that
is, the configuration items in the VspVoice node. Then, save the configuration. For
details on the user-defined ONT parameters, see List and Description of the
Customized H248 XML NMS Configuration Parameters for Transparent
Transmission.xls or List and Description of the Customized SIP XML NMS
Configuration Parameters for Transparent Transmission.xls.
2. Choose Profile > ONT VAS Profile from the main menu.
3. On the ONT VAS Profile tab page, right-click, and then choose Add.
4. In the Add ONT VAS Profile interface that is displayed, set the values of Terminal
Type, Vendor ID, Version, and Profile Name (such as HG850a).]Then, click the
Import button, select the xml configuration file, click Open, and click Apply. Click
OK to generate a new profile (HG850a in this example).
Procedure
Step 1 In the ONT list, select the ONT to which the configuration is to be issued, right-click, and choose
Bind VAS Profile.
Step 2 Right-click, and choose Add.
Step 3 Click the Export button to export the configuration file (with a random file name) to the local
device.
Step 4 Open the xml configuration file released with the ONT version, and copy all the items in the
VspVoice node.
Step 5 Open the xml configuration file exported in step 3, and paste the items of the VspVoice node to
the HG850DeviceCofig node. Then, save the configuration file.

6 Troubleshooting
This topic describes the preliminary troubleshooting flow and methods, preparations before
troubleshooting, locating the fault according to the status of the LED, and troubleshooting FAQs.
Context
Procedure
Step 1 Locating a Fault Preliminarily
Find the fault location and the cause of the fault. Table 6-1shows the locating procedure.
Failure to make a phone call or poor l The connection between the telephone and the
voice quality telephone line is abnormal.
l The ONT port connected to the IAD is configured
improperly.
l The IAD does not successfully register to the MGC.
l IAD voice service is not configured with a higher
priority.
l Check and ensure that the connections of the cables
are in the normal state.
l Check whether the telephone set is normal.
l The number configured on the ONT is incomplete.
l The codec configuration and authentication
configuration on the ONT are incorrect.
l The telephone number is already registered.
l One or more users are not successfully registered.
l The voice IP address is not obtained.
Failed to access the Internet l The subscriber terminal or the subscriber loop is
faulty.
l The PON port is faulty.
l The data configuration of the upper-layer device is
incorrect.
l The PON board is faulty.
l The optical path is faulty.
l The control board or the uplink interface board is
faulty.
l There are network attacks.
l Check whether the PC route conflict exists.
l Check whether the WAN port obtains the address
successfully.
l Check whether the IP address segment obtained by
the PC is correct.
l Check whether the ONT WAN port and the ONT
address can be successfully pinged.
l Check whether the WAN MAC of ONT MAC
address is all Fs.
l The NAT conversion function for the bound WAN
port is not enabled.
l The LAN port is a L2 port, but the PC does not obtain
the public network address.
NOTE
Table 6-1describes the basic troubleshooting methods. If the fault sympton is not listed in , see checking
the optical fiber status, checking the ONT status, checking device statistics, checking the data configuration
of the device and checking the upper-layer device status in turn for locating the fault.
To locate a fault caused by the optical fiber, check the following points:
l Whether the optical fiber is inserted reliably.
l Whether the optical fiber is bent excessively.
l Whether the optical fiber is broken.
l Whether the average transmit optical power is normal.
l Whether the receive optical sensitivity is normal.
Check the status LEDs of the ONT. For details, see 6.3 Locating Faults Based On the LEDs
on the GPON ONT.
Run the display ont info command to check the ONT information, including Control Flag,
Run State, MAC and Config State.
l If Control Flag is activated and Run state is up, it indicates that the ONT is normal, that is,
the user passes the authentication and gets online.
l If Control Flag is activated and Run State is down, it indicates that the user is offline.
l If Control Flag is activated and the ONT registration is disabled, run the ont activate
command in the GPON mode to activate the control flag.
l If the configured MAC address is inconsistent with the actual MAC address of the ONT, the
registration fails.
l If Config State is in the normal state, it indicates that the ONT configuration recovery is in
the normal state.
l If Config State is in the failed state, it indicates that the ONT configuration restoration fails.
The ONT may be bound to an incorrect ONT profile. You can try re-issuing the configuration
command or restarting the ONT for troubleshooting the fault.
Step 4 Checking Device Statistics
l Query the traffic statistics of the upstream port. Check whether the receive or transmit traffic
exists.
l Query the performance statistics of the PON port.
l Query the performance statistics of the ONT.
Step 6 Checking the Upper-layer Device Status: Check whether the OLT is normal.

According to , the differences between the PPM-350B optical power meter and common optical
power meters are that the PPM-350B optical power meter has a downstream input optical port
and an upstream input optical port, and can display the optical power of three wavelengths, that
is, 1310 nm, 1490 nm, and 1550 nm.
Figure 6-3 shows the common measurement points.
Figure 6-3 Schematic diagram of measurement points of optical power in the GPON
Field engineers should also know the indexes related to light on the ONT side, such as the
maximum input optical power of the 1490 nm wavelength, minimum output optical power of
the 1310-nm wavelength, and receive sensitivity of the 1490 nm wavelength.
Table 6-2 lists related indexes.
Table 6-2 Indexes related to the light on the GPON ONT side
Parameter Type Wavelength (nm) Unit MIN MAX
The indexes in are calculated according to the GPON 984.2 Class B+ Protocol. In the actual
calculation, the insertion loss must be considered. Therefore, it is recommended that 1 dB margin
should be reserved in the deployment.
To use an optical power meter, do as follows.
1. Connect optical fibers to the upstream and downstream optical ports correctly.
2. Turn on the power supply.
3. Choose the measurement unit (dB or mW).
4. Perform the measurement.
Figure 6-4 shows the measurement interface of the optical power meter.
he optical channel loss is the total loss caused by optical fibers, optical splitters, active
connectors, and fixed connection points of optical fibers. In the engineering design, Table 6-3
can be used to estimate the optical path attenuation.
1:32 16.5
1:16 13.5
1:8 10.5
1:4 7.2
1:2 3.2
NOTE
l a indicates the average loss of the optical fiber per kilometer (dB/km). L indicates the total length of
the optical fiber (unit: km). The loss of the optical fiber jumper and fiber patch cord used in the
engineering can be ignored because of short length.
l b indicates the loss of a spliced point (dB) and n1 indicates the number of spliced points.
l c indicates the loss of a mechanical connection point (dB) and n2 indicates the number of mechanical
connection points.
l d indicates the loss of a connector (dB) and n3 indicates the number of connectors.
l e indicates the loss of the optical splitter. Only L1 optical splitting is considered. In the case of L2
optical splitting, the loss of two optical splitters must be considered separately.
Procedure
Step 1 Check whether the power adapter matches the device.
Step 3 Check whether the On/Off button on the rear plane has been turned on.
Step 4 Check whether the mains supply is normal. That is, whether the mains supply meets the
requirement of Huawei's product.
Step 5 Check whether the input voltage for the board is in the normal state. The normal voltage for the
DC is 11 V-14 V.
----End
Procedure
Step 1 Check whether the optical fibers are properly connected.
Step 2 Measure the optical power of the 1490-nm wavelength in the downstream direction by using an
optical power meter. Check whether the optical power meets the preceding input requirement
of the GPON ONT.
Step 3 If the optical power does not meet the input requirement of the GPON ONT, check whether the
section of the optical fiber connected to the ONT is clean. Wipe the section in one direction with
special papers for wiping optical fibers or lens of cameras.
Step 4 Measure the optical power of the 1490-nm wavelength in the downstream direction again and
check whether the optical power meets the input requirement of the GPON ONT. If the optical
power does not meet the input requirement of the GPON ONT, it indicates that the optical fiber
link is faulty. Otherwise, proceed with the next step.
Step 5 Check whether the ONT connector is clean. Wipe the section of the connector in one direction
with special paper for wiping optical fibers or lens of cameras.
Step 6 If the fault persists, measure the voltage of the end connecting the resistance R378 on the board
and the optical transceiver if the condition is proper. Make sure that the optical fiber link is
connected properly. If the level is low, it indicates that the optical transceiver is damaged.
Otherwise, the CPU is faulty. If the optical transceiver is damaged, replace the optical
transceiver. Otherwise, it is recommended that you return the ONT for repair.

Context
The LINK LED and the AUTH LED blink, it indicates that the ONT fails to register.
Procedure
Step 1 Check whether the SN is correct.
Step 2 Check whether the input optical power is very small.
Step 3 Check whether the ONT is set to work in the continuous mode. If the ONT is set to work in the
continuous mode, this fault is severe and other ONTs may not go online. Use the continuous
optical power meter to measure the optical power. If any data can be displayed by the optical
power meter, it indicates that the device is in the continuous light-emitting mode.
CAUTION
If the ONT is set to work in the continuous mode, this fault is severe and other ONTs may not
go online. Use the continuous optical power meter to measure the optical power. If any data can
be displayed by the optical power meter, it indicates that the device is in the continuous light-
emitting mode. If the LINK LED and the AUTH LED are set to the continuous mode, cancel
the setting.

Step 1 Check whether the network cables match the device.
Step 2 Check whether the network cables are properly connected.
Step 3 Check whether the LED of the network interface card (NIC) is on.
Step 4 Check whether the NIC works in the normal state.
Step 5 If no fault is identified after the preceding steps are performed, ping the maintenance IP address
192.168.100.1 of the ONT from the PC. Check whether the ping operation is successful. Note
that the IP address of the PC should be in the subnet 192.168.100.x.
1. If the ping operation is successful, check whether the port loopback or GEM port loopback
are preset on the local port and whether the port negotiation is correct.

6.4 FAQs
FAQs include faults that occur on the HG850a and the corresponding solutions.
is configured to ensure that the TDM service is not interrupted, which is implemented
through the bandwidth compensation function.
l Q: What are functions of setting min-distance and max-distance for a GPON port?
A:
huawei(config-if-gpon-0/12)#port 1 range min-distance 10 max-distance 15
1. Run the preceding command to set the min-distance and max-distance for ranging
between the OLT and the ONT. The OLT opens windows to receive a ranging response
from the ONT.
2. Max-distance indicates the radius of the concentric circle that is synchronized last.
The OLT can use the max-distance and RTD to calculate EqD and then allocate EqD
to the corresponding ONT.
3. The difference between the values of min-distance and max-distance cannot be larger
than 20 km.
4. If values of min-distance and max-distance are set properly and accurately in
engineering, the delay of the transmission between the ONT and the OLT can be
reduced.
l Q: What are functions of the deactivate and activate commands of the MA5680T on an
ONT?
A:
huawei(config-if-gpon-0/12)#ont deactivate 1 0
The deactivate command is used to disable the optical transceiver of an ONT, that is, to
stop sending and receiving optical signals of the 1310-nm wavelength. The ONT can still
receive optical signals of the-1490 nm wavelength sent from the OLT.
huawei(config-if-gpon-0/12)#ont activate 1 0
Activate the optical transceiver of the ONT to recover the ONT service.
l Q: Why does the VoIP service fail to be provided when the IP address of an ONT is
configured through the CLI?
A: In the case of version V800R005C01B079 and later versions, all configurations of the
IAD are packed as a file through the N2000 BMS and then delivered to ONTs over the
OMCI during the service provision of the ONT. This configuration file contains the IAD
configurations and IP addresses. Therefore, the ONT does not run the commands for
configuring the IP address from the OLT after the service provisioning is implemented.
Through the preceding analysis, use any of the following two methods to configure the
ONT during the configuration of the VoIP service.
– Method 1: Provide services and configure ONTs through the N2000 BMS.
– Method 2: Telnet to the ONT management interface through the CLI to configure the
IP address of the ONT and the MGCP information.
Method 1 is used in the service provisioning and method 2 is used in the deployment test.
l Q: How to add an ONT to the OLT?
A: Enable the auto-find function of the GPON port.
huawei(config-if-gpon-0/1)#port 0 ont-auto-find enable
After the OLT can communicate with the ONT normally, the ONT reports its SN.
Specify the ONT ID and the ONT profile, and add an ONT.
NOTE
The following considers the command line display of the V800R005C03 or V800R006C02 in the
distributed mode as an example.
huawei(config-if-gpon-0/1)#ont add
l Q: What are functions of setting min-distance and max-distance for a GPON port?
A:
huawei(config-if-gpon-0/12)#port 1 range min-distance 10 max-distance 15
1. Run the preceding command to set the min-distance and max-distance for the ranging
between the OLT and an ONT. The OLT opens windows to receive a ranging response
from the ONT.
2. Max-distance indicates the radius of the concentric circle that is synchronized last.
The OLT can use the max-distance and RTD to calculate EqD and then allocate EqD
to the corresponding ONT.
3. The difference between the values of min-distance and max-distance cannot be larger
than 20 km.
4. If values of min-distance and max-distance are set properly and accurately in
engineering, the delay of the transmission between the ONT and the OLT can be
reduced.
6, 7 -> 0 High
4, 5 -> 1
2, 3 -> 2
0, 1 -> 3 Low
l Q: What are the purpose and method of OLT ranging in the GPON system?
A: The purpose of ranging in the GPON system is to ensure the same time reference for all
ONTs connected to one PON port. In this way, the time division multiplexing (TDM) mode
of the upstream data can be implemented.
The method of ranging in the GPON system is to perform delay compensation for all ONTs
connected to one PON port so that the ONTs are logically at the same location as the ONT
that is in the furthest distance from the OLT.
l Q: How does the GPON system bear the triple play service?
A: The GPON system bears the triple play service in the following modes:
– Single GEM port for multiple services
– Multiple GEM ports for multiple services
– One TCONT is bound to one GEM port in the upstream direction
– One TCONT is bound to multiple GEM ports in the upstream direction
l Q: What are differences between the five types of T-CONTs in the GPON system?
A: In the case of T-CONT 1, the bandwidth is allocated statistically. The assured bandwidth
is the maximum configured bandwidth and the bandwidth of T-CONT 1 is allocated with
a priority.
In the case of T-CONT 2, only the assured bandwidth of users is guaranteed. If the assured
bandwidth exceeds the maximum bandwidth, the maximum bandwidth is allocated.
In the case of T-CONT 3, the assured and non-assured bandwidths are allocated. If the
requested bandwidth can be ensured, the bandwidth is allocated directly upon request.
Otherwise, the left bandwidth that cannot be allocated is labeled and allocated with the
bandwidth labeled with tags of T-CONT 5 based on the round robin (RR) algorithm.
In the case of T-CONT 4, the non-assured bandwidth is allocated. After the assured
bandwidth is allocated, the left bandwidth and the left bandwidth of T-CONT 5 in the
requested bandwidth are allocated based on the RR algorithm.
In the case of T-CONT 5, hybrid bandwidth is allocated. Check whether the assured
bandwidth meets the requirement. If the assured bandwidth meets the requirement, the
bandwidth is allocated directly. If the assured bandwidth does not meet the requirement,
the left bandwidth is labeled and allocated with the bandwidth labeled with tags of T-CONT
3 based on the RR algorithm. If the bandwidth cannot meet the requirement yet after
allocation, T-CONT 5 competes with T-CONT 4 for the left bandwidth.
l Q: What are the specifications of the GEM port in the GPON system?
A: The specifications of the GEM port in the GPON system are as follows:
– In the case of the MA5680T, 16 K (ID: 0-4095).
– In the case of the single PON port: 4096 (ID: 0-4095).
– Reserved: OMCIs (ID: 0-127), service configuration (ID: 128-3999), and others (ID:
4000-4095 for multicast and broadcast services, and invalidity).
– Each GEM port supports the mapping of up to eight streams and the priority ranges
from 0 to 7.
l Q: What is the difference between two DBA modes in the GPON, that is, SR and NSR?
A: The difference between the SR and NSR is whether the ONT supports the function of
reporting the bandwidth. If the ONT supports this function, the SR is used by default. The
ONT reports its bandwidth requirement and the OLT allocates the bandwidth to the ONT
according to the left bandwidth and a specific algorithm.
If the ONT does not support this function, the OLT allocates the bandwidth to the ONT
according to the percentage of idle frames filled in the ONT to the bandwidth.
l Q: What are the specifications of the upstream VLANs and user VLANs of the MA5680T?
A: The specifications of the upstream VLANs and user VLANs of the MA5680T are as
follows:
Upstream VLAN: Service 4 K (VLAN ID: 1-4093)
Reserved: 15 VLANs for the system (not be used for all) and the range is configurable (ID:
4079-4093)
Used for AOE/TOP/BTV/Stacking/DBGENT/VoIP/MPLS
Number of user VLANs: 4096 (VLAN ID: 1-4095). The specific number of VLANs is
determined by the ONT.
l Q: How is the DBA implemented in the GPON?
A: Dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) is a mechanism used to dynamically allocate the
upstream bandwidth of ONTs of the GPON within microseconds or milliseconds. It can
increase the bandwidth usage of PON ports on the OLT in the upstream line in an office in
the GPON, and add more users to a PON port so that users can share services requiring
larger bandwidth, especially the services that have large bandwidth burst.
The DBA is implemented as follows: The embedded DBA module of the OLT continuously
collects DBA reports, performs related calculation, and then issues the calculation results
to ONTs through downstream frames in the form of BWMap. According to the BWMap
information, the ONTs send upstream data in the timeslots allocated to them, and occupy
the upstream bandwidth.
l Q: How many T-CONTs are there in an MA5680T and What is the range of T-CONT IDs?
A: The number of T-CONTs and range of T-CONT IDs are as follows:
– A: There are 256 T-CONTs in a single PON port. The maximum split ratio of a PON
port is 1:64 and each ONT has four T-CONTs on average.
– The range of T-CONT IDs is from 0 to 7. T-CONT 0 is reserved for OMCI. It must be
configured with the bandwidth larger than 5 Mbit/s.
– Each ONT can be allocated with three T-CONTs on average.
Alloc_ID: 0-4095 (256*Tcont_ID + Ont_ID).
l Q: What is the function of the burst optical/electrical technology used by the GPON optical
port?
A: The burst optical/electrical technology is used to enable or disable the laser of a PON
port at a burst so that optical signals cannot be mutually affected due to slow enabling or
disabling of the laser.
l Q: What is the difference between the single-mode optical fiber and multi-mode optical
fiber?
A: The single-mode optical fiber is an optical fiber that can transmit only one optical signal
(with one type of wavelength) at a time. With the inner diameter of smaller than 10
microseconds, the single-mode optical fiber is used for long-distance transmission of
signals at a high speed.
The core of the multi-mode optical fiber has a longer circumference than the core of the
single-mode optical fiber. The multi-mode optical fiber can be used for multi-mode
transmission. It provides multiple transmission channels, which have transmission delay.
The stability of the transmission channels degrades with the transmission distance and the
bandwidth is limited. The multi-mode optical fiber can be used to transmit more than one
optical line, which has different refractive indexes. The diameter of the core of the multi-
mode optical fiber is longer than the wavelength of the light source.
l Q: Why must the distance between two ONTs that are the furthest away from and nearest
to the OLT respectively be within 20 km?
A: The GPON protocol processes the upstream traffic in the TDM mode. The duration of
encapsulating a frame is 125 us. During the periodical ranging of ONTs connected to one
PON port, the OLT must detect all ONTs connected to the PON port within 125 us. That
is, requests for upstream bandwidths from all ONTs must be received by the OLT within
a ranging period of 125 us. In addition, the speed of light is fixed. Therefore, the maximum
distance between two ONTs that are the furthest away from and nearest to the OLT
respectively must be limited to 20 km.
l Q: What are methods for GPON ONT upgrade and what are their differences?
A: There are two methods for GPON ONT upgrade: OMCI remote upgrade and local
upgrade. The OMCI upgrade indicates the remote upgrade for the ONT in the office or on
the upper layer device such as the N2000 BMS, which is invisible for users. The local
upgrade involves the Web upgrade and serial port upgrade. The user can performs the Web
upgrade, that is, enable the maintenance IP address of the ONT and select the upgrade file
to upgrade. The serial port upgrade is performed by engineers in maintenance.
The upgrade files of ONTs include the following:
– .W file: This file must be loaded in the CFE mode.
– .IMAGE file: This file is loaded on the Web page directly. It can also be loaded in the
CFE mode.
– .BIN file: This file is loaded on the Web page directly.
The HG810, HG810a, HG850, HG865, OT550, and HG851 can be upgrade by running
commands through telnet.
Differences between three files are as follows:
– The .W file is the upgrade file for earlier versions. When the .W file is upgraded, the
basic input/output system (BIOS) and user programs are upgraded.
– When the .IMAGE file is upgraded, the BIOS and user programs are upgraded.
– When the .BIN file is upgraded, the BIOS is not upgraded.
Currently, ONTs of Huawei's use .BIN file for upgrade.
