CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of Problem
In studying English, there are many things to be known in advance. One of them is part
of spoken word or in English is called Part of Speech. In English grammer, Part of Speech
are classified according to what we showed the Noun, Pronoun, Adjective, Verb, Adverb,
Preposition, Conjucntion and Interjection. But in this paper will only discuss about Verb and
Adverb only, in accordance with a predetermined.

1.2 Purpose
1. To know the meaning of verb and adverb
2. To know parts of verb and adverb
3. To know the examples how to use verb and adverb

1.3 Benefit
The benefits of making these papers is so that the readers can know the importance of to
know verb and adverb and to fulfill the duties of subjects English for Guidance and
Counseling.

CHAPTER II

FRAME OF THEORIES
A. The Meaning of Verb

A verb expresses action or links the subject to the rest of the sentence. The subject in a
sentence is the noun or pronoun performing the action of the verb or bring linked to the
descriptors in the predicate . Verb is a word used To describe an action, state, or occurence and
forming the main part of the predicate of a sentence.

Verb is generally divided into 3 namely Verb 1, Verb 2 And Also Verb 3. V1 used for an
activity that occurs at this time or future, while V2 is used for an activity that occurs in the past
and V3 is used for perfect namely to events that happened in the past but there is a relationship
with the present time.

Here are the Types of Verb and Their Functions in English.

1. TRANSITIVE VERB
Transitive Verb is a form of verb or verb in English that requires an object in the sentence.
example :
 I open a window because i feel so hot
 She gives a chocolate to me
 My Mom washes a plate in the kitchen
 My Father reads a newspaper
 I call you about something

2. INTRANSITIVE VERB
Unlike Transitive Verb, Intransitive Verb is a form of verb or a verb that does not require
an object in a sentence.
example :
 I can run so fast
 My Mother is cooking in the kitchen
 My Son is sleeping early

 My Husband is jogging every morning
 I am running alone

3. LINKING VERB
Linking Verb is a form of verb that is used to connect a subject with a predicate in a
sentence.
example :
 He is the kind boy that i see
 She is the beautiful woman in this world
 The food taste delicious
 I don’t confident to speak about it
 She is angry with me

4. AUXILIARY VERB
Auxiliary Verb if In Indonesian can be interpreted as a helpful verb. The function of The
Auxiliary Verb of course is to connect the main verbs in the English sentence.
example :
 You should call me this night
 She can write a letter
 I must believe you
 You should go now
 She can sing a beautiful song

5. REGULAR VERB
Regular Verb is a form of verbs that change regularly. Regular Verb consists of many
kinds And is marked with the effect -ED in a sentence.
example :
 She booked the ticket
 My mother called a doctor
 She washed the clothes
 Hany walked alone to the store

 My Big brother played football

6. IRREGULAR VERB
Irregular Verb is the opposite of Regular Verb in English. Where if it happens substitution
then the verb has also changed.
example :
 Mitha made a cup of coffee
 I swept my room every day
 They wrote a letter to me
 Agus swam in a pool with Jo
 My Mother brought me some book

B. The Meaning of Adverb

Adverb is a word that serves to describe verb (verb), adjective (adjective), or another
adverb. Adverb is one of eight part of speech can be divided into several types, including:
1. adverb of time
2. adverb of manner
3. adverb of degree
4. adverb of frequency
5. adverb of place
6. adverb of modality

1. Adverb of Time (Time)


Adverb of time is an adverb to declare the time of occurrence of an activity or event.

Example of Adverb of Time


 two days ago  last year
 already  next week
 before dawn  now
 finally  since yesterday

 tomorrow

Examples of Adverb of Time Sentences :


1. It's hard to wake up early if you sleep late.
2. I hasn't seen Monic since yesterday.

2. Adverb of Manner
Adverb of manner is an adverb to state the way an activity is carried out or an event occurs.

Example of Adverb of Manner

 Automatically  Quickly
 Carefully  Slowly
 Correctly  Successfully
 Fast  Suddenly
 Fluently  Well
 Hard

Example of the Adverb of Manner Sentence:

1. She shouts automatically when the glass was fall

2. My Grandmother walks carefully

3. Adverb of Frequency
Adverb of frequency is an adverb that states how often an activity is carried out or an event
occurs.

Example of Adverb of Frequency:

 always, constantly  sometimes


 usually, normally  occasionally, infrequently, seldom
 often  rarely, hardly ever

 never  hourly
 monthly  every second
 weekly  once every month
 daily  three times

Examples of Adverb Sentences of Frequency:

1 She never use the black skirt

2. I visit my family monthly

4. Adverb of Place
Adverb of place is an adverb to discuss where an activity is carried out or an event
(location), the direction to which someone or something moves (direction), how far someone or
something (distance), or a combination of them.

Example of Adverb of Place

 above  east
 abroad  here
 across  indoors
 anywhere  nearby
 away  uphill
 backward  at home
 downstairs  under the bed

Example of the Adverb of Place sentence:

1. She just stay at home

2. I put my wallet under the bed

5. Adverb of Modality
Adverb of modality is an adverb to express the level of confidence or expectation.

Example of Adverb of Modality:

1. Maybe they won’t come to my birthday party

2. You’re probably wondering why I’ve gathered you all here

6. Adverb Degrees
Adverb can be used to make comparisons. This word can change shape according to the
type of comparison. Positive degree to compare equality, comparative degree to compare two
things, and superlative degree to compare three things or more.

Examples of Adverb Degrees Sentences

1. She has study as diligent as Mira. The positive degree

2. She has study more dilligent than Ocha. The comparative degree

3. She has study the most diligent in my class. Superlative degree

CLOSING

3.1 Conclusion
Verb and Adverb as one of the spoken words (Parts of Speech) in English grammar is one
of the many things that must be known in learning English. Verb and Adverb is a word that
describes verbs, adjectives and other words except nouns (noun) and kataganti (pronoun). There
are various verb and adverb forms which are categorized by function or usage. By knowing verb
and adverb, both forms, meanings and applications are expected to be one of the capital in learning
English properly and correctly.

3.2 Suggestion
I really expect criticism and suggestions from students who can build and can make this
English language paper even better
