8 400,000 80,000

Total runoff volume small event: Runoff coefficient can vary

400,000 m3 * 0.2 = 80,000 m3 strongly depending on the
geologic & geomorphologic
Total runoff volume medium event: characteristics and the
vegetation cover in the
m3 * 0.2 = m3 catchment!

Total runoff volume large event: Flatter areas with more forests
and pastures can have runoff
m3 * 0.2 = m3 coefficients below 0.2.

Here we use: ca. 0.2

Distribution of the material on the debris flow fan:

high
1m
medium
«low» does not exist for debris
flows!
0.5m

Example (small event):

High intensity: 40,000m3 * 50% with 1m flow / deposition height
 affected area = 20,000m2
Medium intensity: 40,000m3 * 50% with 0.5m flow / deposition height
 affected area = 40,000m2
ATTENTION: This is only a rule of thumb and the indicated heights should not be seen
directly as deposition.
