DESIGN CONCEPT STATEMENT
The branch office for A Place For Mom, a
senior care referral service, will be in the
hot West Town neighborhood in Chicago,
IL. The top 6th floor space will offer
dynamic views of the surrounding areas as
well as stunning downtown views to the
east. It is paramount to create a calm,
healthy space in which the employees will
excel and the clients will feel immediately
comfortable. The raw space will be
preserved by keeping the original
hardwood floors and leaving the brick
exposed. Departments will be separated
by living green walls which will serve as
acoustical absorption, visual privacy and
air purifiers. The greenery theme will
continue will air plants hung throughout in
elegant glass teardrop shaped vases.
Light fixtures and hardware will nod
towards the industrial loft soul of the
building and complement the downtown
views. The overall vibe will be earthy and
natural, punctuated with sleek metals and
high gloss acrylic furniture.

COLOR PALETTE INSPIRATION
COLOR PALETTE JUSTIFICATION
This analogous color scheme of blues & greens will effortlessly complement the raw,
industrial elements of the loft space. They will echo the peaceful hues found in nature,
creating an office environment which values the mental state of the employees.
Studies have found that blue and green positively influence:
• Productivity
• Focus
• Calmness
• Stability
• Efficiency
Punctuations in the shades of neon aqua and pure kelly green will energize the space
without inducing anxiety. The muted brick tones and original oak floors will serve as a
neutral and non-competing background. The use of plants and living walls will support and
enhance this color scheme as well.

STEELCASE – focus pods –
research has found that in order
for open office layouts to be
It was important to consider only companies successful that cannot be
that value and pursue the highest exclusively “open” but must
sustainability standards. London & I also offer a variety of
discussed products that would be workspaces for employees to
unexpected and make the “seen before” loft gravitate towards based on the
office something new & intriguing. nature of their work and the
level of uninterrupted focus it
may require.
Currently, London works nearly exclusively on residential projects. She creates concept
boards with swatches of materials and pictures of furniture selections. This approach suits
FF&E projects well, but for space planning projects, she often utilizes 3D design software
such as Revit.
In her opinion, hand-drawn renderings are most helpful in the sketchy, conceptualization
phase. When a client is ready for the final proposal, they expect a professional 3D rendering
so they can adequately grasp the idea. Unless a hand-drawn rendering is extremely well
done, she feels it can leave the designer susceptible to being perceived as amateur and
unprofessional.
I just took my first 3D modeling class last session and am not extremely confident with
producing renderings at this point. I suppose I will only get better with practice and look
forward to more classes teaching Revit. However, I did minor in Drawing a hundred years
ago when I got my first BA, so I will continue to refine these skills concurrently.
