Notebook 8

Don R. Hastings says:

Hasting is arguing that t is not the attempts of censoring information and media that is

deteriorating our country, rather the polar opposite that the lack of censorship within the United

States is what is deteriorating the country as we know it. His says that with no censorship,

pornography is free and exposing everyone to harmful material, material that no one should be

subject or forced to print nor to see, and that it is not a form of art. He also continues to claim

that the first amendment is not unlimited, there are laws in place such as the ones where you

cannot lie under oath. He goes on to quote the bible about how sin is evil and wrong because he

claims that due to lack of censorship, many are still willing to give into temptation. He goes on to

make several points along the matter of censorship is a shield something that allows us people

our protection from harmful content

I say.

Censorship is designed in order to help prevent us from witnessing any and all types of

harmful content, however many of the points that had been made by Don Hastings were simply

hasty. The issue of pornographic content has already been solved as you must be a certain age,

18, in order obtain the material, it cannot be publicly posted into any medias without provided
warning. And to the point that it is not a form of art, many artists believe that the human body is

a forming of expressing oneself, whether or not it is in the form of nudity. The first amendment

is limited, however only limited so that justice may be properly served in the courts, and also as a

means to not put one's life in danger, such as the law says you cannot scream fire in a theater.

Otherwise the beauty of the first amendment that Hasting may have glanced over, is that you are

allowed to speak your mind and and convey your emotions through your speech, whether or not

it is vulgar, the intention is simply to allow people the ability. Anything that is against vulgarity

is seen more as a courtesy for others. In fact there have been several studies that look into use of

vulgar language as a proper means of expelling anger by a non-harmful means. The important

thing is that the constitution is designed in order to allow every person to be their own person

and make their own decisions so long as it does not inflict any damage upon another person and

his property. The thing about America that is great is that allows people the choice of following

what they believe, and so if a religion says something to not do they can choose to follow suit

and agree. But it also allows people who don’t agree with said religion guidelines, or even the

religion as a whole, to explore their freedoms in the pursuit of specified information, even if

deemed immoral by another's standards. These rights were designed for all people of all

religions, beliefs, and cultures, therefore should not be subject to follow one specific groups

regulations. That is what I say
