2.0 Introduction

The purpose of this document is to give to the Customer a general information on how to
remove and replace a LV / HV coil of a generic transformer.
The general procedure listed below is applicable to both (cast resin and dry type) Medium
Voltage transformers.
Attention must be paid to the fact that, although never in a substantial way, any transformer
might have peculiarities and customisations that require varying the present procedure.

3.0 General Description


Equipment description

1 High voltage (HV) winding 10 Upper profile LV side


2 Low voltage (LV) winding 11 Lower profile HV side
3 HV connection bar / terminal 12 Roller profiles
4 HV delta connection bar 13 Bi-directional roller
5 HV off circuit regulation taps 14 Transformer earthing terminal
6 LV connection bar / terminal 15 Lifting eye
7 LV neutral connection bar / terminal 16 Coil support
8 Thermal protection system terminals 17 LV spacer
9 Magnetic core

The complete equipment consists of the windings, the magnetic core (active materials), the
clamping / support structure, the thermal protection systems and, if provided protective
enclosures or ancillary devices such as fans, heat exchangers or anti-condensation heating
devices.
Please refer to the General Arrangement drawing for details of any further fittings.

4.0 Remove / Replace procedure

4.1 General:

All tasks on this equipment must be done in full compliance with the
"Health and Safety at Work Ac"’ relevant to the country of installation
and all work must be carried out by suitably qualified personnel.

During the Maintenance tasks on the transformer all previous


instructions relating to the handling and storage are applicable

.
To prevent injury to personnel and or damage to equipment the earth
terminal of the transformer must be connected to the main installation
(or sub-station) earth before any other supply cable connections.

All operations to the transformers must be carried out with the


transformer de-energised, all the terminals earthed and in full
compliance with Health & Safety regulations

Contact with the energised transformer coils or terminations must be


avoided. The resin insulation system will not provide sufficient
protection from electric shock.

The instructions and actions covered in this manual should only be


carried out by suitably qualified personnel operating under the current
and relevant local regulations.

The general instruction of handling and the main maintenance tasks should be performed in
compliance to the Trasfor Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manual (ref. C).

4.2 Accessibility & Preparation:

The accessibility to the transformer has to be guaranteed to perform the operations of


maintenance and handling of the transformer parts.

In a preparation phase, lifting equipment (hooks, binary, etc.) should be provided.


The lifting equipments will be provided according to the transformer configuration.

4.3 Skilled Personnel:

Only Trasfor qualified personnel must carry out all maintenance tasks listed in this document.
However electrically and mechanically skilled personnel could perform a Remove / replace
procedure under supervision of Trasfor personnel.

4.4 Remove Tasks:

Listed below the general maintenance tasks necessary to remove the LV/HV coils.

1- Remove the main parts of the cubicle (When applicable):


- Panels
- Cover
- Frame
Fully accessibility to the transformer (IP00) must be achieved

2- Remove the thermal probes, and all the electrical accessories (main cabling of
transformer)

3- Remove the LV & HV connection bars and their supports

4- Remove the upper clamping profiles

5- Remove the top of the magnetic core

6- Remove the top coil supports

7- Remove the damaged LV coils and the LV spacers (between LV winding and core)

8- Remove the damaged HV coil/s

Tasks 6 & 7could be modified according to the type of the coil/s damages.

4.5 Replace Tasks:

Listed below a general maintenance task necessary to replace the LV/HV coils.

1- Replace the damaged coil/s with the new one/s


- Coils must be positioned on the bottom coils support
- LV coils positioned with the LV spacers

2- Replace the top yoke package of the core

3- Replace the top clamping profiles

4- Fix the coils with the top coils supports

5- Replace the LV/HV connection bars and the supports

6- Replace both parts of the cubicle (without the panels)

7- Replace the cabling

8- Check and clean all active parts

9- Test and controls (see paragraph 4.6)

10- Replace al protective enclosure panels

4.6 Tests and Control:

Perform all the required checks and settings before the start up, in fully compliance to the
Trasfor Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manual (ref. C).

Specific Test could be made in according to the transformer specification document.

5.0 Conclusion

It is recommended that qualified personnel should carry out the maintenance task, described in
this document.
