BALOCHISTAN FORUM OF ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISTS (BFEJ)

BALOCHISTAN FORUM OF ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISTS (BFEJ) is a Quetta based non-


Government and non-Profitable development organization working for s o c i a l
d e v e l o p m e n t integrated approach in the entire Balochistan province since 1998.

Background:

The founder members of BFEJ were came with an idea back in 1996 to established BFEJ. Initially its
activities were revolved around creating respective public awareness through campaigns of
different levels and strengths on self helped bases aiming to sensitize the people on basic issues
i.e. Education, Health, Gender & Women rights, Child rights, Youth mainstreaming and promotion
of peace initiatives amongst the people of the area. These endeavors earned response from the
community and this encouraging attitude helped to expand BFEJ activities.

Competencies

BFEJ has p r o f e s s i o n a l J o u r n a l i s t s & experienced members of the board of directors who


can help each other and can achieve the milestones of a well reputed development organization in
the region. The organization is keen in preparation of various kinds of projects in the fields of
education, health awareness, capacity building and community physical infrastructure
development. Capacity Building is an integral part of all the projects being implemented by the
organization.
Youth mainstreaming is the main focus to ensure sustainable development in all fields and sectors.
Vision

Develop a society where all people have equal right to access all basic needs and facilities to ensure a
positive and progressive society.

Mission

Building partnership between Government agencies/Department and Communities in all


social sectors especially t o t a k e p a r t in Education promotion and all basic right provision to
the deprived communities, to respond Development in multi dimensional and holistic
perspective.

Goals

• Seek a leading r o l e f o r t h e p r o v i s i o n o f c i v i l s o c i e t y organization,


Facilitating Government, Donor’s and Communities to support efforts, for development
initiatives.
• Develop a strengthened and sustainable organization, having the capacity to
i n t r o d u c e c r e a ti v e development concepts and to meet seeds for preparation and
implementation of intervention in all social segments.
• To interlace the efforts and energies of professionals and volunteers for productive
institutional and organizational interventions and strengthening.
• Institutionalize and s t r e n g t h e n G o v e r n m e n t a n d community partnership,
i n i ti a l l y through the development.
• To play an effective role at gross root to ensure youth participation in the area
development.
• To make strategies for enhancing the status of Youth, Woman and Children.

Objectives

Mainstreaming Youth:
BALOCHISTAN FORUM OF ENVIRONMENTAL JOURNALISTSwill focus youth activism and capacity
building to ensure their participation for the sustainable society development.

Quality Education:
BFEJ will work for the promotion of quality education among disadvantaged communities
through activation of existing government line departments and civil society organizations
(CSOs).

Water & Sanitation:


BFEJ will work to improve sanitation conditions through introducing low-cost sanitation
technologies and provision of safe & clean drinking water facility.
Healthy & Hygiene:
BFEJ recognized poor hygienic practices a cause of many illnesses and a damaging factor for the
vulnerable communities. BFEJ works for creating awareness and encouraging the communities
to adopt healthy hygienic practices by incorporating in its projects social mobilization, awareness
campaigns, trainings, community meetings, development and dissemination of IEC materials etc.

Resource Management of Nature & Natural:

BFEJ will strive for optimum natural resource management through participatory approaches
and introduction of new techniques for promotion of agriculture, forestry, water resource
management and livestock.

Gender & Women’s Rights:
Gender & Women rights are cross cutting issues in all the interventions. BFEJ believes that
women are double burdened, being women – they face economic, social, cultural, political and
religious discriminations in the society - and being poor - face all kinds of discrimination in
the society. BFEJ would rigorously focus the betterment, welfare, empowerment of the
women and work to narrow the gender gap.
Coordination of Social Development Agencies:
BFEJ organization would sensitize the Support System-Government, Semi-Government, Non-
Government Organizations, Banks, Private Sector and Corporations etc so that the resources
could reach to the poorest of the poor without any leakages. BFEJ would also develop linkages
of the Poor’s organizations with Support Systems.
Social Mobilization:
BFEJ will provide advisory services and training in gender equality, women in development and
poverty alleviation through Rigorous Social Mobilization.
Relief & Rehabilitation services:
BFEJ will provide relief and rehabilitation services to the communities in times of disasters and
calamities.
Advocacy & Research:
BFEJ would pursue advocacy & research on various social, political and economical development
issues by developing linkages with government and
other CSOs. Gender discrimination, Violence against Women, Human rights violation and role of
institutions will also be the focus of the organization. For its campaign, BFEJ would use all the
means including print and electronic media to create mass awareness by utilizing local resources.

Region

BFEJ has a plan to implement its activities across the Balochistan province and initially set up has
been established in Dist. Quetta, Balochistan.

As, Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan, covering about 43.5% of its geographical land
but having 5.1% of the total population of the country. Due to such a wide geographical

Technical Resources:
BFEJ has a network of computer system fully equipped with /Inkjet/Laser Printers, scanners etc to
meet the current professional, technical and administrative requirements of the organization such as
design, drafting, Word-processing, data analysis and research, project management, finance and
general computing. Internet facility is also available to meet the requirement of latest sources of
communication.

6.1. ONGOING PROJECTS:

BFEJ is not been able to get formal projects yet because it’s a new born organization.

6.2. COMPLETED PROJECTS

BFEJ has been completed several project with IUCN and other organization organization.
The members of the BoD of the BFEJ and the volunteers have been involved in conducting
community awareness activities on various subjects such as children enrollment campaign in
schools, participated in polio campaigns, different walks, workshops and capacity building trainings
conducted by the Government and other development organizations.
