BOYLE’S LAW

Objectives:
Investigate the relationship between volume and pressure of gases at constant temperature.

Materials:
 60 ml syringe
 3 Notebooks/books
 Ruler
 Clay
 2 flat wood as base and support to the plunger

Procedure:
a. Place the opening mouth of the syringe in the base that has the same size of it. Make sure the
syringe fits perfectly that it can stand on its own.
b. Fill the syringe with air by pulling the plunger. See to it that the volume reading is at 30 mL.
c. Seal the opening of the syringe with clay. ( Takpan ang butas ng hiringgilya ng clay.)
d. Place the other flat wood on top of the plunger. This will serve as holder of the book. You just
have prepared a Boyle’s Law Apparatus. Note the initial reading.
e. Carefully place one book and get the volume reading.
f. Place another book on top of the 1st book and note the reading for the second trial. Do this step for
pagsubok. Ulitin ito sa pangatlong aklat.)
g. Record the mass and the volume reading using the table below.
h. Plot the findings in the provided graph. Use a red pen in adding books and removinng books. ( I-

a. Plot a graph with volume at the y axis and the number of books stacked at the x axis.

Guide questions:
a. What happens to the volume of the syringe as the set of book/notebook is added on top of it?
b. What happens to the pressure on the syringe when the set of book/notebook is added?
c. What happens to the volume of the syringe as the books were remove?
d. Describe the graph plotted.
(Ilarawan ang graph na naka- plot.)
e. What is the relationship between volume and pressure of gases at constant temperature?
