Is College Education Necessary

It’s not just the education that matters, which would advance you in the working world, but
going to college and gaining that experience gives you the chance to find who you really are outside of
high school and in the real world. Finding who you really are could also advance you in the working
world because you could easily find the career that best fits you and that you are truly happy with. The
amount of benefits you would receive in the future is just another reason why attaining a college degree
is so important to advance in the real world.

Studies show that those who have a college degree earn more than those with just a high school
education. A report done by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association, high school
graduates earn about $30,000 per year compared to an average of $50,000 a year to those with a
college degree. Looking ahead know, you may find jobs that pay just fine that don’t require a college
degree but that more than likely change throughout time and that shows in another study done that
shows people ages 25 years and older are going back to college to earn a degree because they are
finding even higher paying jobs that require a degree. This research shows that people who have college
degrees tend to be employed two to three times more than those with just a high school education and
tend to earn 60% more very year. To conclude, those who earn a college degree will more than likely
get a higher paying job with better benefits compared to those with just a high school diploma. In
addition, workers with a college degree are less likely to face unemployment. People with a college
degree are more focused on maintaining a stable job therefore, there is better career stability. Research
shows that only 2.7% of workers with a college degree face unemployment compared to 5.2% of those
with just a high school education. Adam Slipakoff, a managing partner at a law firm, told New York
Times “College graduates are just more career-oriented. Going to college means they are making a real
commitment to their futures.” In conclusion, the unemployment rate for college graduates is less than
half of the rate than those with only a high school diploma.

Some people may think that student debt for college students is not worth the price in the long
run. Yes, about 44 million Americans owe over $1.5 trillion in student debt but the average college
student makes more than $570,000 a year compared to just high school graduates. In 2016, the average
income for people 25 years and older with a high school diploma was about $35,615 while those with a
college degree earn about $65,482 which is more than a $25,000 difference. All in all, those with a
college degree have a better ability of getting a higher paying job and being able to pay off any loans
they have within a shorter-time span compared to those with just a high school diploma. On the other
hand, many college graduates have jobs that do not require a college degree but the percentage is rising
for jobs that require a college degree and even though some college graduates have jobs that don’t
require a degree, the degree they have, more than likely, put them ahead of someone else that applied
for that same job that didn’t have a college degree. In January of 2017, the unemployment rate for
college graduates was 6.3% compared to those with a high school education which is 13%. Therefore,
more and more jobs are starting to require a college degree and if not, the college degree will put you
ahead of someone that doesn’t have a degree.

In conclusion, attaining a college degree is a great choice if someone plans on advancing in the
working world and will give them great benefits in the future. Having a college degree will decrease the
chance of facing unemployment and will increase the chance of attaining a higher paying job that will
help in the future. Gaining the experience, you get while attending college not only advances you in the
real world but also helps you find who you truly are. Many studies have been done to show how
necessary it is to get a college education if you plan on advancing in the working world; For example, a
report done by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association that showed that those with
just a high school diploma earn about $30,000 a year compared to those with a college degree that earn
about $50,000 a year. Therefore, if you plan to attain a higher paying job and advance in the real world,
a college degree is a great idea.
