Topic: The Difference Music Can Make Time Frame: 60 minutes

Students will be able to create an emotion based off the music they have created through Garage
Band on their Chrome Books.

Context:

Students will oberseve a video showing the same scene with multiple types of music behind it. It
shows that music can create the emotion behind a scene and cahnge it depending on what is
playing. They will then watch a silent scene where in groups they will determine what type of
emotiuon they want to create.

Choose a minute of the ​clip​ to create the background music.

Students have the opportunity to be creative in a way that is engaging. For those students who
need specific partners to work well with groups will be chosen ahead of time.

This is a great lesson to start the year off as the students are getting solidified in
their instruments and first few weeks of school. Class will begin with showing the
students the youtube clip of ​Lord of the Rings​ wtih different music in the
background.

Activities
*Step by step - what is going to happen during the lesson?
(Include teacher modeling, student practice, check for understanding, etc.)

Teacher will then go through Garage Band and the assignment.


1. Students must choose a 1 minute section from the ​Jurassic Park clip​.
2. They will in their groups, determine what emotion they want to create in the
scene. They will then begin creating the music for the background on the
software Garage Band.

Conclusion
(How will you revisit the main ideas of the lesson, check for understanding, assess
learning, etc?

Class will end with each group going over what emotion they chose, without giving
any spoilers of their song. That will be revealed at the next class.
