Abstract (Times New Roman, 10 pt)

This paper discusses alternative ways for heating an EV during the cold season. Because electric vehicles don’t have
engines that produce heat, during the winter about 20 to 40% of the battery capacity in an electric vehicle is used for
heating the passenger compartment. This means that a 400km battery can last less than 250km. The battery’s performance
is also affected by the low temperatures, decreasing the range to as low as 45% of the marketed value. In case of a traffic
jam you might not even get to your destination or to the nearest charging point. It is very important to conserve the heat by
insulating the car better, use the sun power in a shiny but cold day and try to produce heat by other non-pollutant means.
The conclusion of this paper is that there are some alternative ways to heat an electric vehicle that can be easily adopted by
the manufactures, especially for long range cars. (Times New Roman, 10pt).
