Help is not always an easy thing to give…

“Help,” he said “is giving part of yourself to somebody who

comes to accept it willingly and needs it badly. So it is
that we can seldom help anybody. Either we don’t know
what part to give or maybe we don’t want to give any part
of ourselves. Then, more often, we do not have the part
that is needed.”

I told him, “You make it too

tough. Help doesn’t have
to be anything that big.”

Norman MacLean in
A River Runs Through It

“ No way exists for a rational
human being (or even an
irrational human being) to
fight a bureaucracy. Even
when the country of
bureaucrats is
conquered, they flourish,
effortlessly traversing from
the arteries of war to the veins of peace. Huge bureaucracies
are simply invincible.
Nonetheless, I throttled Dicky Piehand and pushed him up
against the paneling in his office.”
Mark Helprin, Memoir From An Antproof Case, p.277.

YOUR TURN… You Do it!
® What can you give to others?
® What can others give to you?
® What resources are available in
your community?
® What can these resources give to
you?
® What can you give back to these
community partners?

25
What Can YOU Do?
® Each community, locality and
state is in a different spot
® Opportunities differ
® But it’s the same critical question: What
changes do we need to make to achieve the
best possible outcomes for people and
families going forward?
