Your path to teaching excellence
Why experimentation
needs to be learned
Dear Teaching Professionals,

In your institution you equip your students with important skills and competences that
they use throughout their professional lives. This has a direct impact on their later
success. By their very nature science and engineering subjects also demand the essential
knowledge of how to carry out experiments and conduct practical work.

Traditionally experimentation has always been one of the core competences of scientists
and engineers. When experimenting there is a great deal to be considered, much to
practice and a lot to learn – in other words, it requires a lot of knowledge. The planning,
carrying out and recording of experiments is therefore an important element of a well-
founded education in science or engineering, and one that should always be embedded
in the curriculum. In order to reinforce newly acquired knowledge, experiments must be
well matched to the theory.

This idea also forms the basis of the dual education system in Germany: directly
apply the acquired theoretical knowledge to practice so as to educate and train highly
qualified specialists who are internationally recognized in their fields.

You have already chosen a path of teaching and learning which is practice-oriented –
one that is an investment in sustainable education, producing graduates that the labor
market needs. We hope the Leybold Didactic Academy (LDA) will accompany you along
this promising journey.

Sincerely,

Dr. Hans-Joachim Prinz

Leybold Didactic Academy
How LDA builds the bridge between
theory and practice
As part of the LD DIDACTIC Group, we have
extensive expertise in physics, chemistry and
biology and the engineering disciplines built on
them. At LEYBOLD we have over 160 years
experience in the development of didactic training
and teaching systems, which for generations has
made a significant contribution to the transfer of
knowledge in science and engineering education.

We have been asked by many customers whether

LD DIDACTIC could also support the sustainable
transfer of knowledge methodologically and The need for support is due mainly to two factors,
didactically – for this reason, the Leybold Didactic which you will probably recognize from your own
Academy was founded. Our offering includes teaching experience:
courses and training programs for teachers and
lecturers. Teachers/lecturers are qualified in theory,
but they desire more experience and greater
confidence in the methodological use of
associated laboratory and practical work.

The movement of teachers and lecturers

between colleges gives rise to lost expertise –
as a result, well equipped labs are perhaps
no longer used or not to their full potential.

The seminars offered by LDA show how knowledge

can most effectively be transferred; by conducting
experiments, participants learn the connection
between theory and practice. The result –
successful learning that ensures sustainable
facilities and resources.

What LDA offers
LDA offers a range of seminars for teachers from a diverse
range of educational institutions, for example, secondary
schools, vocational colleges and universities.

Each seminar and each participant group has different

requirements. We therefore choose the content and focus
on what is best suited for the teaching professional’s
needs. Our seminar leaders are all highly qualified and
have many years of practical experience gained in various
educational institutions.

Learning under the best possible

conditions in Germany

The seminars take place in schools,

colleges or universities in Germany.

Our partners are well-known institutions,

that we have worked with for many years,
for example:

Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-
Universität Bonn
Fachhochschule Köln
Beuth Hochschule für Technik Berlin
AKAD University Stuttgart
Berufskolleg Hilden
AUDI Bildungswesen Ingolstadt
How our seminars are structured
The seminars offered by LDA include methodological and didactic assistance to help practitioners in everyday
education. They also serve to refresh and consolidate knowledge. An important part of the seminars is the
organization of the laboratory and workshop equipment, including the transfer of safety standards.

Group size and the duration of the seminars can be tailored to your specific needs and is also dependent
on the choice of topic. Each module can be booked individually.
