HAZARD SYMBOLS

INSTRUCTIONS

1 Collect the worksheet – a table with 10 hazard symbols and blank spaces.
2 Without help or any discussion. Complete the column “WHAT I THINK THE SYMBOL MEANS”.
3 Collect the information sheets which identify the hazard symbols, describe them and give a few examples. (NB Radiation is missing. You can
complete that!)
4 Now complete all the columns on the worksheet, using the information sheets.

5 Finally – plan and make a learning game! This will be the work of the second pair of classes in the week, in the lab.
a. This will be done by table groups.
b. For each of the 10 hazard symbols, you will need cards of the same size and design, but of four different colours:
i. A drawing of the symbol – white card
ii. The meaning of the symbol – red card
iii. A description of the symbol and its risks – yellow card
iv. An example of this type of hazard – green card
c. On the back of each card, write your table number.

You should finish with a card game. The cards will be shuffled and then arranged as quickly as possible in their correct order.
