Your task is to create a piece of geometric art using Desmos that highlights the geometric properties we
have studied. You must create the art using lines, so you’ll need to brush up on y = mx + b.
Step 1: Create an account at www.desmos.com/calculator. You will need to save your work and provide
a link to your graph and equations.
http://www.engare.design/
Step 3: Re-familiarize yourself with restricted domains. Remember that, for example, {x < 5} will make
your line only appear to the left of x = 5.
Step 4: (Optional) You may also want to experiment with graphing inequalities, such as y < 2x +1, if you
want to fill in the white spaces, or with graphing other functions if you’re curious, such as x2 + y2 = 25.
Step 5: Start playing around with lines and get creative!
Requirements:
● Your art must include at least one of each of the following:
o A vertical line
o A horizontal line
o A line that’s neither vertical nor horizontal
o A triangle
o A quadrilateral
o A polygon with 5 or more sides
o A median of a triangle
o A midsegment of a triangle
o A parallelogram and its diagonals
Requirements: (cont’d)
● Print two copies of your art: one to look good (no gridmarks, no x or y axes) and one to mark up
(include gridmarks and axes). On the marking-up copy, label all important vertices with an upper
case letter, and add any additional marking you’d like that will help you refer to your image
● On a separate piece of paper, identify each of the above required figures and theorems, using
your labelled vertices. You will need to use a ruler and/or protractor to do some measurements.
Remember to show each step needed to demonstrate a theorem and to use proper notation.
For example: Here is only a small part for illustrative purposes only – yours would of course include
many more lines. https://www.desmos.com/calculator/i0i0haa4g2
This is a final evaluation activity and includes elements of all seven process expectations: problem
solving, reasoning and proving, reflecting, selecting tools and computational strategies,
connecting, representing, and communicating.
Your score is worth 10% of your final mark. Your final exam makes up the remaining 20% of your final
evaluation score.

Your work will be evaluated according to the following overall expectations:
C1. I can determine the relationship between the form of an equation and the shape of its graph
D3. I can verify geometric properties and relationships involving two-dimensional shapes
