Job Description

Nursery Assistant

This person is responsible to the Nursery Manager and the Deputy Manager.

Main Purpose Of The Job Role:

Follow the Code of Conduct at all times.

Take care of and supervise the children aged 0-5years with regard to their physical,
emotional and intellectual needs ensuring that the environment is stimulating and
inviting at all times.

Plan and prepare activities, to meet children's individual needs, liaise with parents
and negotiate working targets ensuring effective communication within the nursery.

Ensure the nursery setting is of a continuous high quality including reflecting and
evaluating the playrooms in regards to equipment, resources, equal opportunities
and safeguarding.

Main Responsibilities will include:

Ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the nursery.

Working as part of the team.

Managing your own time in order to complete tasks.

Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious persuasion,
racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular,
challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed.

Keeping development records and observations.

Using positive management of children's behaviour.

Preparing, caring, cleaning and maintaining the playrooms and equipment.

Keeping and monitoring accident, incident and risk assessment records.

Supervising meals and mealtimes; where appropriate, preparing babies' bottles.


Carrying out laundry duties.

Attending staff meetings as arranged by the Nursery Manager.

Participating in regular parents' evenings, publicity, open weekends and children's


outings.

Ensuring the well-being of all children is paramount.

Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager ,
Deputy Manager and Managing Director.

In Reference Specifically To Two Year Olds:

Support children and parents during settling in periods at the nursery being flexible
in your hours at nursery in order to effectively help each family.

Ensure that children who are not able to express their needs verbally are listened to
and their needs understood through physical actions (possibly Makaton) and
gesture.

Monitor children’s behavior who gives need for concern involving parents during all
stages and supporting where necessary (possibly with leaflets and additional
information to local support groups).

Ensure parents regularly bring in home interest sheets to describe their children’s
interests as they may not be able to verbalize these yet.

This post is subject to a DBS Check being completed.

There is a six month probationary period for all successful candidates.
