FOOD SOLUTION CHALLENGE 2018

Program Details:
Generate solution on a topic that has a major impact on the food supply and on climate. Food
loss, meaning food wasted before it reaches a consumer, accounts for 64% of all edible food
that is lost. Submissions will be judged and​ the top teams will travel to a paid capstone event
to sharpen their design thinking skills and refine their solutions. The top team will win
$5,000 in seed funding to turn their ideas into action!

the amount of available edible food and lessen the impact on the climate?

How to approach
Select any case study (1-3) given above you are interested in and move forward to
create an exciting solution. The given 3 case studies are designed in such a way that
the Final Challenge Statement

What is Wildcard solution approach?


If you have any case study in your mind apart from the above three, you can move
forward with it provided the final challenge statement is fulfilled by it.
Criteria to participate
Registered participants will receive the detailed case studies & challenge through email.
Minimum one member and a maximum of 2 can be in a team. ​All the team members have to
register individually to participate in the Case Challenge.

Submission deliverables
1. Doc file in less than 500 words or less (should not contain any
image/graphs/infographics)

What makes a Great Pitch?


Clearly specify the problem solution
Get your attention with their unique idea
Have a name for their solution
Explain why the solution will appeal and help the consumers
Communicate the short term (<1year) and long term (>5years) impact of the solution

Benefits and Prizes:


● $125 hosting stipend and event toolkits
● 150 Gold Status points for Net Impact chapters
● The top six teams will send two representatives to a paid idea incubator event
● $5,000 grand prize, $1,000 for second place, and $500 for third place
● Entry into a raffle for an iPad for recruiting 25 participants to your event
● Entry into raffle to win iPad, cash, and Beats headphones for each participant at your event

Judging Criteria:
Solutions should be 500 words or less and demonstrate the following​:
● Impact. Does the solution meaningfully reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)? Does the
solution take into consideration the GHG impacts of their idea from multiple angles? Does the
solution meaningfully increase the amount of food available for human consumption with
available resources?
● Innovation. How is your solution a game-changer?
● Viability. What are the first steps you would take to implement this? Who will benefit most (and
be disadvantaged)? Who could be the partners to assist with implementation, and would any of
them help you secure resources? If your solution was successful in the short term, what might
its role be 5-15 years from now?
