Program Details:
Generate solution on a topic that has a major impact on the food supply and on climate. Food
loss, meaning food wasted before it reaches a consumer, accounts for 64% of all edible food
that is lost. Submissions will be judged and the top teams will travel to a paid capstone event
to sharpen their design thinking skills and refine their solutions. The top team will win
$5,000 in seed funding to turn their ideas into action!
Problem Statement:
Challenge Statement:
How might we reduce the food loss before it reaches the consumer in order to increase
the amount of available edible food and lessen the impact on the climate?
How to approach
Select any case study (1-3) given above you are interested in and move forward to
create an exciting solution. The given 3 case studies are designed in such a way that

Judging Criteria:
Solutions should be 500 words or less and demonstrate the following:
● Impact. Does the solution meaningfully reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)? Does the
solution take into consideration the GHG impacts of their idea from multiple angles? Does the
solution meaningfully increase the amount of food available for human consumption with
available resources?
● Innovation. How is your solution a game-changer?
● Viability. What are the first steps you would take to implement this? Who will benefit most (and
be disadvantaged)? Who could be the partners to assist with implementation, and would any of
them help you secure resources? If your solution was successful in the short term, what might
its role be 5-15 years from now?
