Interview Assignment

To start off my reflection, I interviewed my 12 year old sister’s 6th grade teacher Miss

Juliana Wilcox. Miss Wilcox is 35 years old, and been teaching in the elementary age range for

the last nine years. I was first able to find out about her because of my sister, and through her we

were able to email her and set up a quick time that I could come in and ask her a few questions. I

was able to briefly explain the basic subject of my interview, and later explain the reasoning for

doing so. When I arrived, I soon realized she may have seemed to be a particularly quiet person,

but that she was very personable and sarcastic at times. Her sense of humor was able to lighten

the mood at times. I was very glad for that because speaking with a complete stranger - and

especially about a rather controversial subject - is something that I am not super comfortable

with. I have never been known to be a really calm person in awkward situations, and this

interview was no exception. Whereas I did improve from the beginning to end I still felt I could

have been a lot more confident, which in turn would probably led to a smoother, less rigid

interview. Throughout the meeting, I was able to successfully ask every question and receive

one of her well thought out responses. But, as I have already stated, I think if I personally had

been less nervous we probably could have had more of a discussion, rather than an interview.
