Eviction or demolition has been discouraged without the court-order under

particular exceptionalities. According to the Section 10, Article XIII of the 1987
Constitution with the Social Justice and Human Rights, the urban and rural
poor dwellers shall not be evicted nor their dwelling demolished, except in
accordance with law and in just and humane manner. In the play that was
wrote by Alberto Florentino regarding the demolition of the squatters area, the
action of the authority is justifiable.

Examining the introduction of the story, Florentino has clearly pointed out some
facts or factual instances that support how reasonable the action of the authority is. The
“old government building”, “court rulings”, “breeding place of vice and corruption”, and
“estero” are some assumed factual points which supports the demolition of that area,
and will be attested by Republic Act 7279 or known as Urban Development and
Housing Act (UDHA). It is stated that demolition is allowed when it was implemented on
danger areas like esteros, on public places, on government infrastructures, and when
there is a court order.

The whole play is heartbreaking, imagining people fighting for their one and only
home getting dismantled by the demolition team, and worst it is 5 days before
Christmas. Every one of them has their own kind of anguish, however, I assume that
they should not be on worse situation more than what they are experiencing that time
after the evacuation since I believe that the government must have done something for
the underprivileged people to have an access in a place where it is safe for them.

II. In amidst of the play, the boy proudly revealed that his mother got a job
and was confident that they will have a place to go. However, the play was
not simply referring about the boy’s mom having a job and where they will be
going to end up after the evacuation but it is about what is the job of his
mother and this is the intrigue part of the play. The boy described how his
mother reads hands as her job though for the men only, and she does not let
him watch her but making him go out and play as she closes the door. Base
on how the boy described it, his mother might be a prostitute considering the
boy will be beaten if he took a peek on which it increases possibility of the
speculations, and the boy does not even have a hint on what is going on
though still proud of his mother. It is showcasing the full extent of desperation.

III. “I don’t know”, these are the phrases that has been recurring throughout the
dialogue of two children and considered as the motif of the drama. Simply
implying that the characters of the story are innocent, and it was evident when
the boy was playing his toy in the middle of the commotions. Undeniably,
these two main characters do not have a full and real grasp on what is really
happening on their surroundings. The conversation brought up by those two
children was, indeed, covered by their innocence on which it diverts the
enormous feeling of pain and sadness that should be felt by almost of the
people who experienced it.
