Brief note Network of Professional of Food and Nutrition

NetPro.FaN

About

A platform facilitated by FSSAI to leverage the collective strengths of the professional associations and
bodies in food and nutrition, to foster innovations and enhance complementarities.

The following professional associations will be part of this:

✔ Nutrition Society of India (NSI),

✔ Indian Dietetic Association (IDA),

✔ Association of Food Technologists and Scientists (AFSTI),

✔ Indian Medical Association (IMA)

✔ The Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA).

✔ AoAC – Food Analysis

State chapters of these associations will take forward the mandate of eat right movement in different
cities.

Mandate

NetPro.FaN’s mandate is three-fold:


● Provide technical inputs towards various food and nutrition efforts in the country.
● Outreach and engagement – direct to consumers, support government programmes
● Professional development of members
Proposed List of Activities

NetPro.FN state chapters will play a critical role in engaging with and communicating
scientifically sound messages in an appropriate manner to the citizens and professionals. The
following activities are proposed under this:

I. Technical content:
1) Develop, update and vet FSSAI’s resource books pertaining to food and nutrition.
2) Translation of material-books, documents, and recipes in different languages.
3) Development/compilation of healthy recipes along with provision of nutrition
information – piloting a Healthy Recipe Regional database. (Focussing on
region/state-specific recipes using seasonal, locally available, preferably low cost
and simple to prepare recipes)
4) Invite the experts to contribute scientific articles for the Nutrition Resource-cum-
reference book. The book is envisaged as a go-to reference and high-quality
resource on basics and latest developments in food and nutrition. Take a lead in
bringing-out revised editions of the booklet.
5) Create interesting games, activities for the Eat Right website. Volunteer as experts
for a live chat on Eat Right website.
II. Communication activities:

Process of initiation of NetPro.FaN

Phase 1:

1. The following 20 states could be included in phase 1 as these states have active chapters of
most of the professional associations: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Jammu
and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odhisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu,
Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal.
2. Each state should form a team comprising of one nodal association, members from other
association and personnel from state food safety office.
3. Performing different activities in their respective cities during 2019-2020 and submit their
experience report.

Phase 2:

1. Extension of activities of NetPro.FaN in other states and cities.

The activities could be altered depending on the experiences during phase 1 of NetPro.FaN
