ABSTRACT
In the most recent examination format for Year 6, information transfer is one of the
language items tested in the examination. However, studies done have showed that many
students are having problems in information transfer from non-linear to linear text. This study
aims to examine the use of Cheeseburger Paragraph as an intervention in guiding students to
transfer information from non-linear to linear texts. Hence, the objectives of this study are to;
1) examine how cheese burger paragraph help students transfer information from non-linear
to linear text and 2) investigate ways to teach information transfer effectively. This research
involved four Year 5 research participants whom two of them are boys and another two are
girls from a suburban school in Melaka. The methods employed in this study are portfolio,
observation and interview and the instruments opted are document analysis, field notes and
checklist, as well as interview questions. Based on the research conducted, findings show that
Cheeseburger Paragraph helped students in transferring information from non-linear to linear
text. This is because, by using the Cheeseburger Paragraph, students are able to organize
the paragraphs in the essay precisely.
